I just ordered a 16.5" WWII, my first HI khuk. Now I can't wait for it to get here.

My first goal is to produce those neat little vids that Pen did. The ones of him slicing through magazines and papers with khuks and cleavers.

Hey Pen...Ever try that phonebook yet? Cmon!!

(I havn't been around here lately due to the motorcycle season..)

I managed to half a large catalog, but no phonebooks yet. Honestly I don't have any way of holding it steady enough - which makes a big difference.

"motorcycle season"....?!?

Thought that was year-round....:D :p

Congrats on your new and first purchase. I really like the 16.5" WWII's and think you will too. It's the Khukuri I reach for the most. Please let us know what you think of it after you recive it and have had a chance to test it out.

That video sounds interesting! Hope you have a bunch of fun making it.

Pen, Have you thought of using L-brackets to hold a phone book to a Workbench/Table? Here is a picture of what I'm talking about:

If you places 2 L-brackets at each corner of the Phone book which touches the table, the book should stay in place quite nicely. Come to think of it, if you got long enough L-brackets, you wouldn't even need to screw the brackets to the book. :)

Dan, those are some cool clips. :)

If you used a thick phone book as your test subject and a chopping block as the stand, it would work pretty good. Well, the bottum of the book that's against the wood might deform, but the L-brackets would probably help keep that from happening.

Come to think of it, I tride what I'm talking about a couple years ago, but instead of L-brackets, I used chunks of wood. It worked pretty good for me then. Wish I had taken pictures to show you how I did it.

Now that I think about it some more, a free hanging phone book would work best for these tests. I think I could come up with a way to do it. Will draw up my ideas and get back to you.

I like the idea of that. Perhaps a contest. First one to do it gets a lot of  from everyone. Remember if you do try something like that safety first, there is a great deal that could go wrong with something like that.

Pen, I really enjoyed watching those clips but I couldn't make out exactly which khuk you were using. How about displaying the full profile of the khuk for a moment before you behead the magazines? :D

I recieved the new cold steel video, they put their Grosse Messer (if I remember right) through a phone book, they had it laying on a surface though instead of suspending it in a vice setup. Not nearly as impressive, but still cool to see the paper fly.

If you pause it at the beginning you can see the blade, looks to be ~ 15" OAL with a blade shape similar to the HI Tarwar (don't know the official name for the shape).

You can also see a triangle box in the background... ;)

Thing about the Cold Steel video's is they always use the same guy who is so muscle bound he looks like he could split a 2x4 with a butter knife.

yeah kind of a funny pair, theyve got that blade swingin sheet metal piercing monster that swings the 4# Grosse Messer like its an afterthought and then theres the chubby guy that really doesn't have very good technique especially on the back hand but can catch all sorts of fruit on the thrust :D

Send me your idea when you get it worked up, Heber. I'm kinda short on phonebooks, but I have some thick real estate books. ;)

The knife cutting the magazines is not a khukuri. It's a file-knife I made for a guy here on the forums. I went through about a dozen magazines with it. Used to real hard - to test it out. Only needed light stropping to restore the edge. Wish I had it around still....:(

Dan, the email is on it's way! :D

Did you happen to take pictures of the knife you used before it left? Oh yeah and I'd love to see some Magazine/Phone book against Khukuri video clips. If that's at all possible. ;)
