After all this time I finally was able to secure my very first Becker knife! Long gone are the days when I first saw a Becker that was the BK9HH and was smitten. But because of procrastination, I never was able to.

Very nice pick you got there. This is my first post and I too just got my first Becker :)

Congrats to you and enjoy it.

Great knife, crappy sheath you got their :-)

That's the "food prep" model from Cuisinart.

You should see the wooden sheath he uses for chopping!

[First SNARK. Welcome to the world of Beckers...]

El flasko, Blunt Forged Edge - Welcome to Beckerland! Where all the blades are sharp and all the steel is awesome.
BFE -That is a great 1st Becker. I especially like the scales. Looks like a nice set of micarta.
El flasko - There's a saying around here. "Pics or it didn't happen" :D
So you should get your pics up asap. If you need any help with getting pics up or anything else just let me know.

Great knife, one of my favs. Welcome to the forum guys.

The King is a good one to have! LOL way to beat convention too, mostly the BK2 is the Gateway Drug that Becker addicts start out on.

Congrats, straight to the King! Like Thrillbilly said, most of us got hooked on the BK 2. Enjoy it

El flasko, Blunt Forged Edge welcome to beckerland. great knive you will have much fun with that blade

Wow, now that is a grand way to start your foray into Beckervana, starting out with the King. Welcome to the madness fellas :D

Congrats on the new blade my man!
Welcome to one of the coolest little corners of the world!
There's nothin finer than the mighty Niner. Except maybe the rest of the Becker line. lol

Okay, since I've been seeing the mods being done to these Becker BK-9s I thought I'd follow suit. Just a simple Klean Stripper which is all for now.

Right before the spray on.

Becker BK-9 "in the white" so to speak.

Say, if I wanted to "polish" the blade up a tad bit, what grit should I start off with? Do you sand/polish first then touch up or sharpen the blade afterwards?

I started with 180. Then 400, 600, and 1500. Rubbed down with Mother's mag polish. Turned out really nice, but if I could do it all over again I would start with a more coarse grit (100?) and then find some 1000 to go between 600 and 1500.
The most important thing is to make sure all the tooling marks are gone before you continue on with finer grits. And to make sure you sand off all of the previous grit marks before going finer.
A buffing wheel would be nice to keep it touched up after polished, but a quick wipe down is probably fine. I'd definately wait to sharpen until your through sanding. You're bound to beat up the edge while sanding.
If you want a real polish it's gonna take a little while. Especially if you're hand sanding like I did. The end result is worth it in my opinion.
That 9 looks very nice by the way.
I need to do some work on a few of my Becker's. Sometimes finding or making time is tough.

Here's how the BK-11 turned out:

Those few marks you see are from hard use. That thing looked pristine after I polished it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick run down! So you'd probably suggest starting out with 100 grit? True I don't have a sanding/buffing wheel just, sanding/polishing by hand and I have to agree with you that the end result can be very satisfying. Yes, buying out time is quite challenging. Thank you again!

Awesome! Now how long did that take you? Was it all by hand?

Yes, all by hand.

How long did it take?......It took a while.

I spent a few hours with the coarse grits and then rubbed it down with the fine whenever I found spare time.
If I had to guess......maybe 4-6 hrs total?
I think I could do it quicker now that I've done it once.
Well, we'll see. I'm actually working on something now.
I'll be sure to do an official write up and post pics upon completion.

Four to six hours give or take I'm guessing. I'll have to make a project out of mine very soon then. Thanks and looking forward to your next!
