Finally - my first custom! What do you think of it?

Hi everyone,

I had already a few handmade knives such as Laguioles and Nontrons, but these aren't really considered as custom knives. And I must say I wasn't very well aware of the customs available in Europe. Well, this weekend there was an annual knife show here in Belgium (yes miss Palin, Belgium is a country :) ) with plenty of French, Dutch, Czech, Polish, German, Finnish and Belgian artisan knife makers displaying their creations. Most often superb creations, often also pretty expensive which is logical considering the time required to handcraft a knife. One thing is for sure: these custom knives have much more "soul" than nearly all factory products. I don't think I will buy many factory products in the future.
Well, I succumbed to the temptation: I bought an in my opinion SPLENDID compact folder from a highly talented and perfectionist Belgian knife maker. It features a sandblasted ATS34 blade, and a G10 and titanium framelock handle. The construction quality is amazing. Absolutely no play. It's pretty compact which makes for a perfect EDC tool. Most of my other EDCs have a traditional look, and this more high tech look makes for a welcome change. It looks a bit like a Kershaw Chive, but several details set it apart, and the general quality feeling is on a higher level (nothing wrong with the Chive, mind you).

So, here are a few pictures. What do you think of it? Feel free to be bluntly honest!

million thumbs up to that one. classic design that will stand the test of time, and impeccable workmanship. I like the all-G10 handle slab on the non-lock side which should save weight. Only 'druthers' I can see would be to have provision for tip-up carry and knurling of thumb-studs.

thumbs-up to your photography also.

A really gorgeous little edc folder:thumbup: Congrats
I remember my first custom about 25 years ago...I could not put it down!
Now the addiction has really started:D

very very nice!!!! excellent looking piece you got there! hope it lives up to your expectations!

Love the size and blade of that thing. Use the hell out of it and post a picture in a couple years!

Congrats!! It looks like a handy knife! What are the specs.? Blade length etc.

Very nice piece! Clean design. Im appreciate utility over embellishment.

(By the way, Obama claimed to have "visited 57 states". Politicians..what are you going to do with them?)

You know, I visited that maker's site, and he has some quite nice designs. How much did that one cost you?

Very nice knife. Wutitiz covered my main two minor concerns. Only one location for the pocket clip and a rather large thumb stud. Still, very nice piece of work. Framelocks are my favorites.

I'm gonna wait a long time b4 I get a custom folder, just too expensive for me.

Blade is roughly 3" (can't measure now). Titanium framelock, satin ATS34 blade. Light.

Pocket clip is a matter of taste (I don't mind but I see your point) but in practice the thumb stud feels right. It's not too big.

cheers.

Nice folder. Looks like excellent workmanship. The color is not my cup of tea, but the main thing is that you are satisfied. Great score.

It looks like a real nice EDC! I give it a :thumbup::thumbup: Nice choice! Kevin

Nice clean and simple design... well thought out. I also would like to see a wider blade profile. The blade seems to be a tad short for the handle length - got any pictures of it closed? Definitely a winner, though - nice snag!

I can't make a picture right now but if you go to this page on the maker's site and scroll a bit down to the model "Arrow 2" (that's the one I have, but with a different handle), you can see a picture of it closed.
