Hi everyone,
I had already a few handmade knives such as Laguioles and Nontrons, but these aren't really considered as custom knives. And I must say I wasn't very well aware of the customs available in Europe. Well, this weekend there was an annual knife show here in Belgium (yes miss Palin, Belgium is a country
) with plenty of French, Dutch, Czech, Polish, German, Finnish and Belgian artisan knife makers displaying their creations. Most often superb creations, often also pretty expensive which is logical considering the time required to handcraft a knife. One thing is for sure: these custom knives have much more "soul" than nearly all factory products. I don't think I will buy many factory products in the future.
Well, I succumbed to the temptation: I bought an in my opinion SPLENDID compact folder from a highly talented and perfectionist Belgian knife maker. It features a sandblasted ATS34 blade, and a G10 and titanium framelock handle. The construction quality is amazing. Absolutely no play. It's pretty compact which makes for a perfect EDC tool. Most of my other EDCs have a traditional look, and this more high tech look makes for a welcome change. It looks a bit like a Kershaw Chive, but several details set it apart, and the general quality feeling is on a higher level (nothing wrong with the Chive, mind you).
So, here are a few pictures. What do you think of it? Feel free to be bluntly honest!
