Questions:
How many of this Satin Battle Rat actuallly made?
Is it of D2?

;)

Nice set you have there. I can see the family resemblance with that Basic9. I could be wrong, but I think it is the same great SR101 that they use in all the big RAT's, only satin finished.

You have a formidable set of knives that would not be afraid to tackle anything you throw at them.

Cerberus

Santi,
Congrats on some great looking knives.

The Battle Rat is one of the special run of Satin Battle Rat's, if I remember correctly less than 200 were made. It is made of SR101 and should serve you well. I'd keep it oiled when not in use to help reduce any rust since it is not stainless.

Keep us updated to the use/abuse of the SBR :D:D

All those hogs tell me that I must use it, to enjoy it.
:D

Eric,
Thanks for the info
:)

Now, can anyone tell me how to remove the stain from a banana tree out of the blade?

Those can be a real pain. Is the stain "raised" over the general surface or is it discolored steel. I've found that bananna tree juice when dried on a blade can be unbelivably stubborn to remove. If the steel is just discolored skip to the second part of what I'm about to write.

To remove the film just scrub it with an SOS/brillo pad and some wd40 or mild detergent. Once you get the film off it's usually just a simple matter of some fine steel wool, metal polish, and elbow grease to get natural colored steel back.

I wouldn't bother polishing it too much though, it's uncoated carbon steel on the battle rat, and it'll get stained a little every time you use it. Just keep it lightly oiled while in storage and polish off any surface rust before it has a chance to get worse. Clean any sort of organic material(blood/meat/plant goo) as early as possible, because it can trap water/corrosives under the gunk. Let it patina naturally otherwise. If it's used fairly often maintenence is less necessary because every time you cut something fiberous like wood or rope the blade gets burnished which removes most surface corrosion as you work.

i bet a taste of another banana tree and a scrubby would take that stuff off.
that is a serious acidic juice.

And for some wierd reason when I had a camillus Talon in talonite it would react oddly when cut, and form a rubbery glue like purple ... goo thing all over the blade, which was totally untarnished after I managed to get it off with a scraper.

Nice user Santi!

Yoda, the banana sap is a pain to get out. The sap will permanantly stain clothes. If you find a soap that removes the stains, let me know.

No way to remove the stain from the clothes, as far as I know, it's just getting darker and darker . . . ;)

Yeah, the sap in the clothes is pretty much uncleanable. If you keep the stain wet from the time it gets on the clothes to the time it's washed (hopefully immediately) it's not nearly as bad though. Once it dries... well.

HELL NO  :barf: If you smelled the water that came out of some of them you sure as hell wouldn't either. The banannas themselves are yummy though :D

But it couldn't kill you, eh?
;) :D ;)

How does it taste actually?
apparently it didn't kill me.
i only tried a drop and it made me pucker so hard it turned my face inside out for a while.
not refreshing, to say the least!

. . . I did the same mistake when I was a little kid. ;)

THANKS for that Rat, Jody!
:D

Few rounds of metal polishing and the Satin is now in much better looking . . .
:)
