Since you guys derailed my last thread and talked me into a BK15 its been killing me not to pick up the BK5. And lurking this forum seeing you damn Beckerheads flaunt your awesome blades doesn't help to quench my thrist for more cro-van monster choppers, slicers, ect... Well "due to production loss" at work OT has been abundant. Finally giving me the funds to justify getting some new blades. Let me know what ya think, also a few questions inbound after pics.

Luckily I was able to pick up the smooth promo BK4 which I assume could be collectable. So should I make it a user or get another BK4 to use and keep the promo pristine?

Also do all BK5 come with stamped logo and smooth finish? The BK5 isn't quite as smooth as the promo BK4 but its not rough by any means. Especially compared to the rhino lining type coating that came on my laser etched BK15.

And did anyone one else snag the bhq t-shirt? Also sorry for crap photo quality, photobucket doesn't like my new phone I'm guessing.

Cool getting the roll stamped 4. Yes, the 5's all come stamped as well. Both awesome blades. I say beat the shit out of the 4, but others may have different opinions.

Where did you find a stamped bk4? Figured those were long gone.

Hey Korben.....

Thank you for your business and your kind words....... I tend to urge people to use their Beckers but, the collector in me says get a couple and put one away.......

Congrats on the new steel. It's good that beckerheads are rubbing off on you. Well, good for the soul.......not so much for the pocketbook.

Awesome! I wish I'd have snagged one of those 4s. How do you like that synthetic Opinel?

Good looking groups of knives! I got one of the smooth stamped 4s on clearance but I sold it to a friend since he expressed interest in the rough etched 4 I had showed him prior. I figure there's enough of them out there that collecting isn't going to do anything for me, I sell the knives I don't use rather than store them, so having money stored up in unused knives is something I have a hard time with.

Sweet scores. I hope to see future posts of those beauties being used.

I need to get a few SAKs.

Users and Keepers; now that's the plan - especially in regards to discontinued models or iterations of models such as the BK4, such as a smooth finished roll stamped one. I understand that using Beckers is the preferred method of extracting the joy we seek (and obtain) from them, but there is a sense of appreciation that comes from holding and preserving a particular piece that will be no more.

I think that having two of a particular model, a User and a Keeper is not indicative of a problem but rather demonstrative of appreciation. Now, when you get that third copy, as potentially a back-up for either the User or the Keeper - well now you might be developing a problem. I openly admit to having a problem with BK5s.

Thanks guys! Can't wait to try out the Bk5, still deciding on keeping the Bk4 mint or not. My next addition will be the king! But my wife also wants a Bk15 of her own, she has enjoyed using mine far more than I expected. She loves the ergonomics and is expecting a Bk15 sporting a purple or turquoise sheath for x-mas lol.

The Opinel is a great slicer although mine came with a mediocre factory edge that I had to strop a bit. Flys through apples like nobodys business. Im curious to see its true potential when its first sharpening session comes around. The only thing that Surprised me was the color. I could've sworn the pic on bhq was quite a bit darker blue. Im also curious to see how it will look once its been worn in a bit.

Oh hey! I just picked up an opinel as well! A N0.10 I immediately modded.

And I was not at all impressed by the edge either. However, with a little bit of work, I put a literal hair whittling edge on it. Congrats on the steel!

Korben, keep the BK4 mint and buy a new rhino lined one to play with. In a couple years you'll thank me.

Great looking blade my friend, your making me jealous now I want a N0.10! Glad to hear it took such a fine edge!

This is the conclusion I've come too. I hope to pick up another BK4 and finally get a BK9 in the coming months. Thanks for all the kind words guys :)
