Well after a long hiatus from knife making (2 blades in the last 4 years). I have gotten to place where I really really miss the hobby. It was an incredible time for me to clear my mind an spend time with Jesus.
So I decided that my Coote grinder served me well but I was longing for something with interchangeable tool arms. So after saving up for a long time an doing a lot of research I settled on an Oregon blade maker. I got his motor chassis drive wheel combo. Small wheel attachment(so excited to finally have this an eliminate the use of my dremel), and an extra tooling arm.
Unfortunately I got the flu 2 days ago, so the setup will have to wait a bit longer. But I’m so excited I wanted to share this with you guys.
I’m more of lurker/reader but I have learned so much from this community, truly thankful to you all! It’s such a great resource.
Now my question has nothing to do with the grinder. But I figured I didn’t want to make 2 separates threads.
What is everyone using for flattening plates? Is There a more cost effective way than buying machinists slab? In the past I have flattened with my grinder an got by just fine because all of my knives have had glued handles.
Well I want to make some blades with removable handle scales and know that they have to be flat so there is no gap between tang and scale.
I know I can get granite counter scraps for cheap but I don’t if they are gonna be flat enough. I know a lot of times there is no substitute for spending more, and if that’s the case I will. But it will have to wait because all my spending cash is now gone lol.
Thanks again everyone.
Figured I better give you something to see hahaha
