All last year I watched the talk about GEC with jealousy - I was saving up for a family trip to the Philippines and didn't buy a knife for a year. Now that I am back, the first thing I did was order a GEC #73. I toyed with getting a stag version, but ended up getting the ebony version since I'm a sucker for ebony. Fit and finish are very good, I am impressed. Springs are strong, but not nailbreakers. This is most likely not my last GEC.

 Theres a Spyderco in the pic ...
Just kidding, congrats on the new knife. I think I may have to try one out, sure seems to be a lot of folks that are happy with them.

Very nice knife. It must've been hard not getting any new knives for a whole year, but I bet it was worth it getting to see family.

I've been looking at em for a few weeks and holding out...not for much longer. Nice knife:thumbup:

Another thing, it's my first traditional with half-stops. They are some mighty springy half-stops! I like it, it's got a very quality feeling to it.

I'm wondering; do all GEC's have half-stops?

Yes, but it is a slipjoint.

I don't know if the backsprings are 1095 or stainless. We'll just have to see if they pick up patina with the blades. Since the blades are 1095, I would be surprised if the backsprings are stainless.

Kamagong - I did pick up a few things made from Kamagong while I was in the Philippines - Arnis sticks, bowls, carvings, and a couple knives with kamagong handles and sheaths.

I'm envious. I haven't been back since 2000. Next time I go I want to pick up a set of kamagong 1911 grips.
