I have been without a knife of my own for a while now........finally finished this one up. I prefer a good sized blade for general backwoods duty and have settled on this size and style after years of trial and(much) error. It does most things that I ask a blade to do very well.

Specs are:
-112 layers of Aldo's 15n20 and 1084...........forged the hard way:thumbup:
-Blade is just a hair under 8 3/4" from tip to guard. .270" thick at the guard with a pronounced distal taper.
-Guard is textured and carved mild steel.
-Spacer is engraved 416 stainless with an antique finish to match the rest of the hardware. The stainless was NOT fun to engrave!
-Butt cap is engraved and antiqued mild steel.
-Handle is amber dyed elk.......real solid piece.......fits my hand like a glove:thumbup:
-Sheath is hand tooled and lined.

All comments and critique most welcome.......please forgive the photo quality.......I'm working on improving my photography:o

Gorgeous knife! Especially love the guard
And if I may ask how did you texture the top
Of the guard.

That is a gorgeous knife! That knife is so pretty that my wife even said it was beautiful. And my wife doesn't like knives. Nicely done sir!

Beautiful work Darcy! I like everything about it. Your Damascus keeps getting better and better. I can only imagine what your steel would be like with a press or power hammer to so some of the work.

Like Lorien said, you may have tough time keeping that one showing it around here.

Great looking knife. I wish I knew what it felt like to make one for myself. I keep telling myself, "the next one is mine". Curious though, why go with stainless for the spacer when the rest is mild?

Too nice! Great looking knife.

I'd have to make myself an ugly knife, so no one would want to buy it, else I'd probably sell it.

Great job my friend.....doesn't look like you left anything out. :)

Looks fantastic Darcy! I really like all of the cool carving.

Darcy, that knife/sheath is so outstanding! No surprise.

Detail rich, and my kind of knife!

Really nice one, Darcy! Just starting to cut my teeth on carving so I can appreciate the work there:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

That is a lovely, lovely knife!

I predict some one trying to get that away from you!

Not sure what you consider the "top" of the guard, but it was shaped with files and engraving chisels......and the texturing was done with a carbide burr in a dremel. All engraving on the cap and spacer was done with hammer and gravers chisels.

Thanks, a couple reasons......first, I wanted to try engraving it to see how difficult it was to cut. Second, I figure my hand rests there more so more likely for my sweaty hands to cause corrosion......maybe. I have used mild a lot for guards and caps with good results, but usually I use a contrasting metal for the spacer......copper NS etc........so maybe it's mostly just habitual.:D

That's gonna be a problem for you Don.......I'm pretty sure you couldn't make an ugly knife even with your eyes shut!:D

Thanks everyone for taking the time to post your comments.......much appreciated.

Darcy:)
