I just finished ordering my camping gear for out camping trips this summer.

Ontario RAT5 in 1095

OST RAT5 Sheath with Firesteel Loop

Victorinox Farmer

Victorinox OHT

Fallkniven DC-3 Sharpener

Military Canteen, cup, and pouch, which I know works because that's what I carried for 4 wonderful months at Ft. Benning. I got a nalgene last night but my fiancee lost it on a rollercoaster today...:grumpy:

Maxpedition Barnacle withthe following contents:

1 piece of flint
1 metal striker
char cloth
jute tinder
a few pieces of fatwood.
(Fallkniven DC3 will be in front pouch)

Adventure Medical "Go Kit" for in my cargo pocket.

And rumor has it that my fiancee wants to buy me a headlamp since she lost my nalgene.

Plus as soon as I get out of school in 2 months I will be attending as many of the SurvivalSchool.com classes I can afford.

Your kit sounds pretty good so far, when you get your equipment, please post some photos.

Those Rats are great blades. I've got a Rat-7 and used it last weekend with a firesteel scout to get my fire going. Works pretty good. You need to add one thing...duct tape.

I'll make room for it somewhere. Maybe arap some of it around a tongue depressor and stuff it in.

Sounds like good gear. Sorry if I'm out of the loop but could you identify the sheath for your RAT a little more specifically. I'd like to check into it.

I recommend the Petzl brand and would stay away from the Princeton brand.

The Petzl Tikka and Tikka Plus has been THE standard with serious hikers for years but their top of the line model is the Tikka XP which is what I have.

I tried out their E-lite and it would be pretty cool for a survival kit, but I use Photon Freedoms for that now.
