Well, I finally broke down and ordered my first Para 2. I've carried and used my Tenacious for a while as my edc and figured it was time to upgrade and try something new. I decided to go with the satin finish version over the black. The all black looks really good but I just have a feeling for a primary office-type environment and general urban carry the satin would be the most easily accepted. I do have to admit though the more I look at the blacked out version the more I'm thinking I may be sleeping in the truck this weekend for ordering my 2nd Para 2...:D

I got my first para 2 this week and really like it. I got the digi camo just b/c I'm growing tired of black handled knives. I think you might find that the satin finish will hold up better as far as scratching goes. But you should really get a ladybug and county comm keyring sheath for office use ;)

I know in the past it was found the black DLC blades were softer than the satin counterpart. Does anyone know if this is still the case or had the hardness tested and have a number? I don't know what the DLC coating process involves but if it is baked on then I can see how the blade would be tempered softer.

There is such a huge difference in quality from the tenacious and the para 2. You'll love it! Congratulations!

Very interesting -- I hadn't heard about this, but would be interested to know if it's still the case. Also, are there other commonly used black coatings -- black oxide, teflon, BK1, etc. -- where softening during the application process could be an issue?

You can't go wrong with a Para-2. Great price for a really solid knife. I don't really think the blade/scale choice matters that much.. after using it a while the thing that you will really come to appreciate about this knife is the ergonomics imo.

Indeed. Really looking forward to using. I tried to find some Benchmades to fit what I was looking for but in the end Spyderco won out

There was one definite case of a black millie testing in at 58rc. IIRC, it was Knarfeng's millie that him and Ankerson used in their cutting tests. I also have a black millie and a black para1 that I think are a little soft based on how they feel on the stones. Just my subjective opinion though.

Thats interesting indeed. Think it is something I should really be concerned with? I've read a ton of good things about Spyderco's heat treat on S30v

I wouldn't be worried about it at all. I don't like coated knives myself because of the look, but I wouldn't be worried about the steel.
Enjoy your new knives, I think you will love them both.

My cousins black para milie feels just as hard as my ti military (maybe even a little harder to sharpen but I don't know if its cause he changed bevel on flat stone and I wasn't hitting edge right away) anyways he ravs about how well spydercos s30 compares to others and it was his only spydie s30 at time. Now he has a sage 1 myabe he will chime in on how the two compare

Congrats, you won't regret it. I have a digicamo/black Dlc. Para2 and it's by far my favorite knife. The bushing pivot is smooth, the black coating is extremely tough, and the s30v holds an edge really well. The compression lock is my favorite, and the flow through scales are easy to keep clean. I actually haven't bought another knife since.

Funny... mine has become a favorite, too. I've been carrying it a lot. For the PM2, I think the combination of digicam and DLC black blade is perfect. Mine arrived with a Rock:

Yeh, I'm not worried about it at all and I don't like coated blades in the first place just happened to buy those because they were the only ones available at the time.

The Para is one of my favorite Spydercos. I have had 4 of them and still have 2, the FG CPMD2 P1 and a Digicam/DLC P2. I am not keen on coated blades, BUT if you are going cammo then why not. DLC has proven to be very tough and it looks like something I would have been proud to carry in the Corps.
