I couldn't stand it. My favorite Kershaw is the Blur - favorite metal is S30V - finally, one is on the way! My "I want it!", and I don't know why, has been the 1993-2 Gentleman Folder - the Japaneese made Micarta/VG-10 lockback I asked about here last Spring. One of them is 'on the way', too. I know, why not a Lahar or something new and neat... I have no answer.

It's been a long dry spell - my 9/07 purchased 1660DAM was the last Kershaw. My moola has been going mainly in quest of the perfect 'bushcraft' fb knife - my last outting landed me in the doc's office for a horrid poison oak experience. I think I'll stick with 'pocket knives' now - for a while!

why not a lahar? because any kershaw you purchase is worthwhile :)

nice snags. i have 7 blurs and i will be getting an s30v at some point. pics when you get?

Nice ones to grab, for sure:thumbup:

The Gentleman's folder is one of my favorites from Kershaw. I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's got some very classic lines, Micarta is always nice, VG-10....

Good choices,
Jon

I ended up with a Bark River Ultralight Bushcrafter kinda third string from a guy here that has been surprisingly effective. I refuse to buy Barkies on the primary market anymore, so I only buy used ones. I dont think the Ultralight Bushcrafter has been around for a while so any you are likely to find will be used either way. After having purchased a bunch of "bushcraft" knives myself, my experience is that none of them is perfect. Find a small one with a thin blade that you can put a wicked edge on and doesnt hurt your hand during extended use. A Mora will do the job for 90% of the people that buy more expensive knives.

I have disliked every thick bladed "bushcraft" knife I've ever owned. Steer clear of the chubby blades while you're dodging the poison oak :D

Oh yeah, and buy more Kershaws :) Look at an Outcast for the big brother for your bushcraft knife. Its an awesome blade at a great price once you convex the edge.

Nice to see ya over here too stainz! I am impressed with the Kershaws as well!
I have a few...:o ;)

I am looking into getting a Blur as well, I am not decided between the SG2 or the S30V though...

I really like the JYD II composite, Shallot composite, (and S110V) and the leek composite!

As long as I posted here anyone have any pics to post comparing any of these knives to the Blur?????

Thanks in advance!

Get an SG2 Blur while you can. You'll thank me (and beat me to buying more).

2 nice pick ups Stainz! The S30V surprised me (in more ways than one!). Takes a very nice edge and will hold it thru some punishment. The SG2 is a slicer, with a more refined edge. If I were to choose between the 2 steels, I'd consider whether it was going to be a EDC/rough use knife or a cared for user.

And I second the mention of the Outcast. A little big for normal bushcrafting tasks, but very nice to have around a campsite. And it's hard to beat for the price!

I love my all-black Blur, but I was unaware of the SG2 edition. That is one beautiful blade! I hope I can pick one up for myself after the holiday season.

I own two and am looking for more :)

Thats my usually EDC knife lately. Spooky sharp.

Yeah, I wanted an SG2, too. Maybe in my next 'fit-o-madness'. I like S30V - my EDC Spydie Native was recently re-sharpened on my Sharpmaker. It displaced my Kershaws due to their dullness (440A), which was corrected with that Sharpmaker, too. Actually, that is the reason, some time back, that I didn't order an SG2 or S30V Blur - I can so easily re-edge the old 440A ones now on the Sharpmaker. The unreal ability of that Native to keep cutting - even nasty appliance boxes - convinced me to get an S30V Blur (I love the Blur design!). Interestingly, the Native's blade was warm after the last box's cut - and it wouldn't cut paper. It took most of an hour on the Sharpmaker, but it is now equivalent to my new spare (Hey, they were $40 at Wally-world - a bargain!).

My recent problems with a new Buck has driven me back to Kershaw - I now 'need' a JYDII, Shallot, and Lahar, too. So many choices...

The vendor said they might ship today - kinda slow (They were paid Sunday.). I'm not anxious or anything. Where are my Kershaws!! I may have to stop at W-W to see what they have - just to 'touch' a new Kershaw... a fix, sort of.

Well, they arrived!

The Gentleman's Folder is sweet - very sharp, nicely done. The spine of the blade, particularly near the pivot, is sharp cornered. A drop of Breafkfree with CLP (Teflon) at the pivot made it's use slick. Very happy with it - even carried it to church this AM in the belt sheath.

The S30V Blur is sharp as can be - both knives are shavers. The thumb studs and skate-tape inserts have been personalized with my DNA samples. My old Blurs are well worn in the scales department. I may buff the thumb studs. Maybe I'm just getting to be a panzy in my old age - and the other Blurs were similar. I do need to find my Torx drivers to remove the Blur's clip - I really don't care for them.

They were a great buy... I just need to decide what's next... composite JYDII, Lahar, or Shallot? Maybe that SG2 Blur - a bit more dear than the other choices. decisions!

I would grab any Kershaw you can with SG2 steel. My Ti/SG2 JYDII came with the sharpest blade that I have ever seen on a knife. That SG2 steel is just magical in it's ability to take and hold a fine edge.

However, if you decide otherwise, the Lahar is an amazing knife in it's own right. I love mine.

I like the D2 laminated G10 scale JYDII. That Ti/SG2 JYDII runs over twice as much - $130-$150 - must be special. The Blur SG2 I found was ~$85 + s/h. The Lahar, JYDII, & Shallot ZDP189 run ~$50-$75. Now I have a headache... I am so confused. I think I may enjoy my two new ones for a while, sigh. Besides, I have to sell something to fund more of this craziness!

$ 85 +/- is not a bad price for the SG2 Blur. The brown frame really gives a nice contrast to the black inserts and SG2 blade...very classy lookin knife!

But then again the CB Shallot is a beauty, too!

I say it because it hasn't been said yet...

GET BOTH OF THEM!

:D

In my experience, SG-2 makes everything else look dull. I have the JYDII in SG2 as well, and will be buying a 2nd one soon.

It rocks.

Well I got a SG2 JYDII, a S110V Shallot and a ZDP189 composite Shallot in one shopping spree, Now I've just finished oiling them after haveing a shaving run with them.

Boy can the SG2 JYDII really shave! I agree with the above poster on how sharp this bad boy is, which bumps it officially as my favorite Kershaw of this month :)

The new Shallots are great too, though I lean on the ZDP189 Shallot causethe blade is thinner and cuts like mucho better than the thicker S110v version. But S110V with a thicker blade is like much tougher and is an everyday workhorse to chop at stuff :)

I now carry both my shallots and admire my pretty laser-sharp SG2 JYDII and couldn't be happier :)
