Two BK2's that is, for my brothers, who deploy again here in like two-three weeks. They will be staying in Texas (I think) for a few months first, but then it is back to the middle east. This will be their third tour, so thankfully they have enough experience to know what to take and I know now what to send them. They are going to love me at the post office here pretty soon.

Anybody else got any family in the service?

Most of my family was, but we are all out now. Long line of us have been in at some point or another. I was the last to get out. My wife, father, uncle, grandfather on both sides, great grandfather on my mom's side.

I still have a bunch of friends that are still in.

My grandfather is a WWII vet. Guerilla in the Philippines, and received his American citizenship for it (almost 5 and a half decades late, but better late than never) and paved the way for us to become citizens as well. His war stories always make me feel like the soft, sheltered boy I am :P

I've been serving for a while. My father did 30 years, Mom did 14. Grandpa served, so did his dad....

Oguruma, either you're a judoka, or you're into big wheels. Or my Japanese is way off ;p

DerekH, good call. I am waiting to see if a good friend of mine is going to be sent on his 5th (yes, 5th!) deployment in the last 8 years, and if he can't get deferred (he is currently in phys. assistant school) I am sending him back to Iraq with a BK2, with the caveat that it is only a loaner, and I fully expect him to hand me that well-used knife personally when he gets back safe and sound. I am an Army brat and appreciate the sacrifices our Armed Forces make to defend us, but this man has done his duty and deserves to finish his schooling - as you can see I am a little up in arms about the situation. Sorry for any ranting - all have a good day.

My SIL is an Army Captain, currently in TX. She's headed back for round 2.

Given that the twins are almost 2, she's looking forward to the quiet in Iraq.

Yeah, they are pretty excited. One knows what he is getting, or that it is a knife, the other has no idea other than it is a package.

Anyways, I am excited, we all talked some more today and we are planning on trying to hike a bit of the Appalachian Trail once they get back. Really looking forward to that.

Truly awesome, and such as you are Derek. Your bros will be getting some good steel. Great choice.
