I just picked up a GSO 4.1 from fleabay and instantly could tell I would be using this knife for every intended use, so I found the little things I didn't like about it and put a couple minutes of work into making it fit just right and I gotta say this knife is amazing. This knife will be on my side any time I am in the great outdoors. Deer hunting, camping, trekking, etc.
Because the handle is a tad short IMO I put it on the belt sander and rounded off corners on the butt end so that they wouldn't dig into my palm when holding it in certain ways.
I then sanded down the edges on the front part of the scales for comfort when holding in chest-lever position.
I also put the top of the spine to the belt sander and gave it an edge to strike a firesteel. (I am super glad I got the model with no jimping and no firesteel notch - the knife has really sexy lines)
I'm currently comparing it to the Battle Horse Knives Woodsman Pro, and a Fiddleback Forge Bushfinger.
I've also had (and sold) a couple Bark Rivers (Canadian Special, Fox River, Northstar, and a couple others back in the day) but they just didn't seem to meet my needs.
The only real gripe I have about this knife is not about the knife, actually... it's the sheath. The sheath is great with the exception that it just doesn't ride well. I will be picking up some sort of dangler attachment (or perhaps a whole leather sheath system w/dangler) to make this knife absolutely perfect!
I have a GSO 4.5 on preorder, and I can see myself getting a GSO 6 in the very near future for a bigger chopper/camp chore knife. I am truly impressed with the quality of this blade. Bravo Survive!... bravo.
