Finally picked up a delica 4

Well I have been dragging my feet for some time with getting a delica 4. I almost bought a delica back in the 90's when my uncle showed me his, but at the time I opted for the Endura. I loved that knife. After all this time, and owning various pm2's I kind of forgot about the delica.

Fast forward I today. I ordered a purple delica 4 from spydercostore.com on Monday and it arrived today!! I must say, I realize now what I have been missing. It rides in the pocket so well I don't even notice it there. I have been carrying a pm2 for quite some time now And never really liked how much real estate it takes up in the pocket. Especially since I have XL hands. Everytime I would put my hand in my pocket with the pm2 the back side Of the blade would fight my hand going in.

Now this delica is the complete opposite. It's narrow enough that I can get my Fat hand into my pocket and not even interfere with it.

It came razor sharp, fit and finish is great also.

I didn't know what to expect from the frn handles, but they feel great.

If you don't have this knife and are lookin for a perfect edc, stop what you are doing right now and order yourself one. You will not be disappointed.

Congrats on your new knife.

I have a black saber grind one. It's what I carry when I'm bumming around in those cheap cotton basketball shorts. It's so light it doesn't pull them down. That's something no one wants to see.

Solid knife. Honestly, the more knifes I pick up, (it's getting weird), the more I really just appreciate my Delica. A solid all-around EDC.

That zucchini bread looks delicious as well - enjoy!

I was not a fan of the original Delica, but the Delica 4 is, probably, my favorite Spyderco with a blade longer than 2.25 inches. I love how it fits my large hand and how thin it is. I took off the pocket clip and simply drop it in my pocket, where it rides very well. I wish they would bring out G10 or Carbon Fiber version that did not cost an arm and a leg.

Hmmm, this post really reminds me, I really should pick one up. I just never really like the blade to handle ratio.

I liked mine before it got misplaced/lost/stolen (still not sure which it is). I am holding out to get another. I want to give a Dragonfly 2 a try before I buy another Delica 4.

I do not know who started that stuff about the blade to handle ratio. If a knife has a 2.85 inch blade, it would have around a 3 inch handle, under this scenario. I am an adult male and 3 inches will not cross my palm. It is too small and, to me, looks funny. Other knives by Spyderco have a finger choil as part of the gripping structure to overcome this failing. The Benchmade Mini Griptilian, which is a wonderful knife, is actually too small for my hand. I actually like the ratio on the Delica as it tells me I can actually use the knife comfortably and with control. When I put my hand on a Delica my hand says, "Ahhh!" because it is such a nice fit.

I agree. It fits my XL Hand great. And a 3" will not cross my palm.

Gotta love that purple. I was about to order a blue one, but seeing that has given me pause. Nice.

I was originally going to go with blue or orange, but I was really drawn to the purple. It's a little dark and would also be easy to find if dropped in the leaves or grass.

I was buying another Delica and seeing your photos, I changed my color choice to purple!

I lost my original Delica soon after I bought it and replaced it with an Endura. A few years later, I bought another Delica but it never really did much for me. But in recent weeks I've bought two Delica 4s (grey and brown handles). The current knife really is an improvement over previous incarnations. I particularly like the full internal steel lining and the longer grip. It's so good I don't even miss having a choil--a feature I've found almost indispensable.

You nailed it, DocT.

I fell in love with the Dragonfly due to the choil and my ability to get a full grip on a knife that small. I gave away a new Mini Griptilian because the handle was too short and uncomfortable for me (the Mini Presidio Ultra handle fits me much better). The Delica, even without a choil, still has a handle you can hold onto.

I really love the purple the more I use it. Went camping this weekend and it performed awesome. Unfortunately I did not take any pics with it

Perfect points. It fits amazingly well in my large hands. I was completely impressed with it's cutting ability this weekend while camping.
