Said I was going to do it when I turned 21, but I've finally got it all done! Background check will be done tomorrow. I got to play with it last week at the ffl, but couldn't take it home yet. So much fun. It hurt leaving it there, like abandoning my child. I could've stayed and played with it all day, making bang-bang noises, but that probably would've gotten me kicked out. It'll be my first gun. I'd never expected to end up with a revolver, but there's little choice for a powerful round in reliable semi-auto that's got ammo readily available. So an 8 capacity .357 magnum it is. Generally more accurate and reliable too. But now I've no money for khukuris anymore, so I better stay out of the main HI forum. My AK bowie should be enough. Next come the mods. A hogue grip, nice holster, and I'll see if I can get it to fit anywhere as a ccw.

Very nice looking gun. Should be alot of fun to shoot w/ .38 specials especially! I'm a huge fan of the Smiths myself.

As far as leather goes, you're likely to be looking at a shoulder holster, unless you're about six foot six....

I used to carry a 4'' model 25 Mountain gun in a pancake holster pretty frequently. darn nice carrying gun. I miss it sometimes....

Congrats! I hope it serves ya' well, and welcome to the world of the infected!
(It's not entirely unlike HIKV, incidentally....)

I have no 'use' for the 357 other than the fact I love guns, and love revolvers about best of all. I have a 38 Special target, and a 41, 44 and 45 Calibres.... So 'ballistically', and I sometimes think that should be spelled with Bull as the lead..I alreadly have the range of handgun calibre covered. BUT I've always wanted a 8 shot 357 on the N frame. Such a cool idea. 8 is enough for anyone.

There's just something classic about a revolver. I don't know much about guns that have come out in the last 15 years or so. Is your Taurus M608 on the same quality level as a Smith or a Colt? If looks mean anything, it should be a doozy!

Just gorgeous.

I hope so. The one I looked at had a very solid lockup, good timing, and a crisp trigger. I did a bunch of searches on thefiringline and thehighroad to try and find reports of problems from owners, but couldn't find any that weren't attributed to not knowing how to adjust the sights, bad ammo, etc. When looking at all taurus large frame revolvers, they actually appeared to have had less problems than the post-lock smiths, and some of the people who had both even said they prefered it to the S&W. I did discover that when taurus back in the 80's or so developed a poor reputation for producing low quality arms, so I was trying to be wary. But I was told by the forumites that they'd made great strides since then, and the newer ones were well-made. There's still a few detractors, but basically all of them neither owned or shot a taurus made in the last 10 years, and a lot of the gripes were things like "I'd rather have something made in the USA by Americans", which I really don't care about. I just want a good product, and if being made in a foreign land means it comes at a great bargain, then that's even better. Come to think of it, I think I actually prefer it that way. Heck, that's why I like HI knives too.

hehe....Dang...Ferguson must know more than he admits...For some reason all I could think of when I saw it was an eight shot Smith model 27 N frame. I thought it was kinda odd, S&W using a ventilated rib bbl. all of a sudden...there was something not ringing true...

FWIW, I've cracked into a couple late model Smiths, and Tauruses this last year, and the internals have become nearly identical. I kinda preferred the old leaf springs on the Smiths myself...

As much as I hate to admit it, yeah...the two (Tauri?) I've looked at lately were VERY VERY comparable to Smiths.

I'm sure it'll serve ya' well!

It's a beautiful gun.

I cheated. Right clicked on the picture, select properties, and the file name had a Taurus M608 in it.:) Then Google and voila!

Haha, wish I could afford a 8 shot smith revolver, but the only one out there is the 627PC, and it costs in the neighborhood of $1500! Too rich for my blood.

I think Smith had a standard production 7 shot for awhile and the custom shop offers either eight or nine shots. Bad memory and besides, one of the young techno whizzes like Rishar or Spectre will come by and correct the old duffer anyway. Who needs to be accurate when you have 30 year olds who know everything?

There's a little lol in there somewhere...

An 8 round N frame long barrel as a CCW?

Okay...I'm impressed.

What about my Dan Wesson 44 mag with the ten inch barrel ?
I thought of disguising it as a hammer ! L:O:L
It actually came with an under the shoulder rig that was torn up too much to repair .

Haha, I just picked it up and it'll barely even fit in my glove compartment. I think ccw is pretty much out of the picture. Well, maybe with a shoulder holster and a winter jacket...

Either way, it's a lot of fun. I can't stop staring at it. It's too late to take it to the range, so that'll have to wait till tomorrow. I bought a box of white box winchester .357, $17 for 50 rounds? I can get it for half that online. Thought walmart was supposed to have the best prices. Oh well, the .38spl was cheap.

Now may be a good time to consider getting into reloading if you don't already. You won't save any money (it never seems to work that way) but you will shoot a lot more.

Wow, turned out there isn't a range out here in pullman. I may not even be able to shoot until I can get home to western wa.

Sheesh, you're in Pullman and you're looking for a range?

Go back to where you bought the gun and ask them where the darned gravel pit is. They'll know. Or pick a sunny day to cruise the logging roads and look for the brass.

Even here in the land of the McMansions, there were gravel pits less than twenty minutes away only a few years ago. Things are a bit different today, of course, and I now have to go to the range just like everyone else, but I'll bet that there are still some active gravel pits around Pullman...unless Pullman has "progressed" as well. I have not been there since high school. It may have.

(Don't get me started on The Rise and Fall of Kitsap County. It would make for an interesting volume, should anyone care to write it, but I don't want to talk about it.)

You were raised in Pullman? Cool. I bought the gun in Spokane, there's no gun shops in pullman. The place is still rural. But I can't remember ever seeing logging roads or gravel pits around here. I'll give it a shot, and drive around the outskirts of town to try and find something.

Hell no, I wasn't raised in Pullman. (And if I were I probably wouldn't admit it.) I just visited a few times.

Ask around. If you happen to be talking guns with a local, make sure to mention that you don't know any good spots. You might be surprised.

Isn't that the County of the events around the real Bufford Pusser? (sic?)

I thought he was from Tennesee. Besides West Park in Bremerton, this is not really a bad area. (West Park is a prime example of why meth and guns don't mix.)

Well, the only historical stuff I know about Pusser is what JD Jones said of him in the Sierra number 3 I think. And I can't find my copy. He loaded up a lot of HOT, and I mean HOT 41 mag loads for Mr. Pusser.

I like to think some bad guys got shot by those loads.
