Got my first (and only) Becker at xmas....it's a nice switch from all my ZT's when I can carry a fixed on me. but other than looking at it, and whittling one stick, I hadn't fiddled with it much. But I've been poring over the threads on this page, I figured it was time to do something. After reading, and re-reading, and drooling over the great work done on these hunks o'steel, I figured I'd strip, neaten it up a bit with some fine-grit, and get a patina going (be it forced or working)
So stage one is complete, thanks to some great written tut's on here, I knew which stripper to get, and now I'm tracking down some snadpaper (that's higher than 1000 grit). Thanks to the Beckerheads who have laid it out quite clearly on the page...this newbie-modder appreciates it a ton.

Nice man. I'm going to strip mine one of these days, get wood scales for it, and a leather sheath.

A convex edge makes a huge difference as well.

Look in some automotive stores, most carry 3M sandpaper up to 2000 grit.

Yeah, next stop is PepBoys...pretty sure they have the finer grits, if not, theres a Napa about 25 minutes away that does. I havent tried convex edges on any of my knives yet...I still have a few cheap throwaways I might experiment on first. (BTW, nice mjolnir :) )

Make sure you post pics along the way. And feel free to ask any questions you might have about any mods.

Thanks, the same to you. Check out my "about me" page in my profile for a little more info. Or, email me.

I will be following this :-)

Im sat looking at a brandnew bk2, I also want to strip it and sand it down and try a patina, but its making that first initial step :-/

A quick update...Sat around with 400/600/800 wet/dry and kept myself occupied while the hops were infusing the wort with their goodness :)

I'm not aiming for a polished knife (actually going to patina it after I find a tutorial on materials), but the cut lines on the spine irritated the hell out of me:

Wound up with this so far...not perfect, but a huge step towards where I want it. Fairly happy, and grateful to the folks on here who have done it and shown how....I learn something new here every day (like I need to find me an ESEE 4!)

Just shows that with good instructions, even fools like me can get a fairly decent result :)
(yes, I probably could've found something to lean the knife against, but I love showing off the Exo :) )

Looking slick so far man. Have you decided what style patina you are going to do? Like hot sauce, grapefruit, blue.

I recently got my first Becker, a BK2 and I have a BK9 on the way. I've been watching a lot of YT videos and it looks to me like most use mustard or straight vinegar to put a forced patina on the blade. I will start a thread when I begin my project.

Did the patina....came out ok, but I may sand and re-do it. Was aiming for lines to resemble Damascus steel...if nothing else, I learned something new :)
(the brown mustard doesn't seem to work as well as I expected though....left it on for a lil over 90 minutes, thought it would be a little darker).
