Finally ... Purchased my first Spyderco knife

Yes, it took a long while to finally buy one but I'm extremely glad I did.

I'll admit that I got "into" knives after a friend introduced Benchmades to me. For awhile, that was all I bought and carried since I loved the Axis lock. But after finding these forums and reading about how people loved their Spyderco knives piqued my interest in this brand. That and the fact that Sal Glesser posts here with great answers to various questions that we have.

The problem was that I couldn't decide on which knife to purchase as my first Spyderco. They have an extremely wide selection and it is difficult choosing which model my fit me. Had my eye on a Manix for awhile but I couldn't find one to play with/hold before purchasing. Considered getting the new Delica or Endura 4 that came out too. It was nice but it didn't do it for *me*.

Then I saw various links and reviews popping up about another variation of the Endura/Delica 4 series. The Waved version. This would literally kill two birds with one stone. Haven't purchased an Emerson Waved knife yet and I still wanted a Spyderco knife for personal evaluation. This was the one I had to ... no ... needed to buy.

It basically arrived overnight from a vendor at 3 day ground prices and got to play with it a bit this afternoon at the office.

1.) The Wave feature is downright awesome.
2.) I'm REALLY beginning to like the Spyderco hole over a thumbstud ...
3.) Fit and finish is as good or even better than some of my $100+ dollar knives. No blade play, solid lock up and feels secure in hand. And it cost me half that with shipping.

I can honestly and without a doubt recommend Spyderco knives to friends since I finally own one and I'm extremely happy with my purchase. This will probably not be my last Spyderco knife by a long shot. :D

Probably won't replace my Sebenza as my regular EDC but it'll definitely make it into the EDC rotation.

Good to hear you like it I have been thinkin of one myself, I own 6 endura's now all of diff types and I was going to get that one but now I might edc it as well. I love spyderco's and I regularly edc a mili and para mili alongside my sebbies or DDR. I dont have alot of experience with the wave but I am sure on that endura its awesome. Good buy.

Congrats on your first Spydie, as well as getting a waved on at that!! Great choice. I am like Barrabas74, in that I have a Spydie along with my Sebbie or Hinnderer.

I'll just jump in here to mention that I too have just found Spyderco. I've an issue where i usually gun for the underdog and when i see everyone rave about spydy i kind of went 'nah they can't be all that good' (kinda inverse logic i know). so anyway i got over myself and picked up the Native III CE. so after i'd stopped slapping myself for being so thick headed as to have not grabbed one earlier i have to say that 'Sal you've got a convert'. my Native just 'belongs' in my hand, so comfortable and damn if it isn't scary sharp, the action is also nice and solid and just conveys reliability to me.
so yeah KyleKim i can relate to you, congrats on your purchase, may it be the first of many (i know mine will be...i just have to work out what next, i do like the look of those Bob Lum Tanto folders)

i just got a new benchmade, im now a benchmade convert but if i wasnt saving my pennies for a seb id be buying a yojimbo. by the way, how is yojimbo pronounced?

oh , and i love my uk pen knife, but hey, by the way..its knife ammnesty week here in wales uk and i was stupidly throwing my hibben pro throwing axe at a tree in front of my house last week after destroying the old archery target and someone must have phoned the old bill.

a couple of days later i had some nasty knocks on the door and was greeted by two cops. both had an unhealthy intrest inmy samurai sword and tanto (one practiced akido wit ha bokken though) but told me due to the fact it was knife amnesty week that htey could have me sign an 'agreed impounding disclaimer' and have the axe taken to be impounded. (like fu** he probably took it staright out he back of the localstation for hit that dougnut competitions with his other piggy friends). but while he was here i showed him my UK PEN KNIFE just to ask him what sort of reactionhedhave to it if he caught me with one.

he reckoned that cos its slipjoint was a sufficiant enough locking mechanism that if he had caught me out in the street with one hed definately arrest me leaving the matter at the mercy of the judge. seeing as it was probably my next door neighbour ,one of the local judges who phoned the police in the first im sure that i would get away just damn fine.

sal, i know you got the help of the british blades guys to help you,one of which is actually a copper himself, how did you go about making the thing legal. did you get advice other thanthat of those at british blades?

(IF ANYOF THIS POST IS OUT OF ORDER,PLEASE EDIT IT FOR ME NOT BAN ME...THANKS IN ADVANCE)

Thanx Greman.

Dantheman,

Tehnically, it is not a locking knife with a blade length less than 3". Therefore legal.

While I am not a lawyer in the Uk, I personally, think your problem was more of a cop with an an "attitude" rather than a legal problem.

He probably thought you were strange for your attraction to sharp things.
