Went to the Dayton show today and there was a sandy gladius just calling my name. Ive wanted one since they came out but never had the funds or opportunity to score until today. Here are some pics with the NMFBM.

First impressions:
This thing is a BEAST! It makes the NMFBM feel very small in comparison. Its also very heavy an has alot of forward weight No doubt you could hack a limb off in a single swing. Compared to the scrapizashi and Waki its a much different sword thats clearly a 1 handed power hacking blade. I don't think Ill ever take this one on the trail because of the weight and the fact that its double edged but it makes a nice bed side companion :D

If any of you guys live near the shows you should come. Its a great experience and its nice to actually get to hold the blades before you buy them. The Busse table is a cool place to hang and you see some awesome stuff like this one guy who brought his original A-2 DSSF. I had a blast and got to spend the day looking at firearms and knives with my old man. Couldn't have asked for a better Saturday:thumbup:

Congrats! That's a pretty cool color on that Gladius that I've never seen.

KalEl
How did I not meet you at the show today.
I was at the Busse table, then walked around the show. Must have been then.
Sorry I missed you.
Great score also.

Ya im sooo jealous, great blade.. I got there too late to see it but josh told me bout it. Well done. Think i might head up in the morning to say hi but too many panic buyers there now for me. Ammo and guns are stupid pricey now days. Glad the blades are still the same.

That looks like a Desert Sand/Tan Micarta from the Fall 2010 Knob Creek "Desert Warfare Set" release; the full set contained a matching BWM and BOSS Jack, but that Gladius was the centerpiece. Very nice!!

Hey KalEl, can you tell me what the color of those scales are on the NMFBM? The blade looks like it has been used well. Do you find that the scales get dirty too easily?

I'm not Kal, but I think those are tan and black G10. My experience with G10 is that it's pretty hard and nonporous, and hand-smoothed ones like Kal's are probably less susceptible to grime.

Bill,

I was there from when the show opened to about 11. I was hoping to see more hogs there. Hopefully I'll catch you at the next Dayton show.

Climbingrocks,

I've used the NMFBM a good bit and the scales are black and tan g10. Ive found that G10 with a hand smoothed finish is just about impossible to get dirty/ grimy. It's a great material and is much different than micarta in terms of absorbtion. Micarta can and will get very grimy with blood and dirt exposure. Smooth g10 will not.

The downside is that G10 is less grippy when bloody or sweaty than micarta.

Very nice. Congradulations. That is a nice looking blade right there. I am working on scoring my own as we speak. Ill post up some pics when my baby eventually gets here ( put down the bottle Garth and answer my email... LOL )

Cool, thanks. I always thought the black and tan on a satin blade is just about the best looking color combo out there.

Great score Hunter! I am jealous!!! I would love to go to one of the shows but nothing comes up my way. I am planning on making a road trip to Knob Creek one year soon though...

Very nice acquisition.
Now go watch a couple episodes of Spartacus for inspiration.;)
Seriously, that Gladius is sweet.
