After listening to Ian and others rave about theirs, I wanted to get one for a side by side with my MS. Well, after doing a Busse/Busse trade (thanks Jaime) I now have an early production AD. Bead Blast (which I like better than satin), with black grips with a touch of green towards the back, and a nice BB pocket sheath for it.

I LIKE IT! Even though it is very close in size to the MS, the blade/grip shape seems to be better suited for the more common cutting tasks. Also, the thinner blade is definately the winner in the slicing dept. The MS is .25 thick, and stout enough to pry up a manhole cover, but that same thickness works against it in the slicing area, or say for opening boxes where the opening is narrow.

Now to work it into the EDC rotation without fights breaking out. I normally carry 1 fixed and a Sebbie (for the sheeple), but this thing with a almost identical blade length/shape of the Sebbie is still about 1/2" smaller than the Sebbie opened! And a bit thicker blade of INFI to boot! I may re-think the Sebbie here. People do freak out when I pull the SHBA out, so it stays put for the most part. I'll have to see what the reaction is to the AD. I'm not a big folder fan (both thumbs have been dislocated), and the Sebbie is the only folder I own. Still, I have to flick it as the thumb won't go all the way around to open.

Now for the fun part. Time to go start cutting stuff with it. Going to make a stew today, so maybe I'll attack some veggies with it.

Rob,
I’m glad to hear you’ve finally got one. :D
You won’t be sorry, I’ve never carried a folder since I first got mine. As you know it’s the satin finish with snakeskin handles.

The handles are starting to wear a little smooth from constant carry, the blade is very low maintenance, I give it a light touch up on a ceramic stone occasionally and its back to scary sharp.

Needless to say I’m completely happy with mine. :D:D

Must have been the lighting cause I thought mine looked just like the pics you posted of yours (thought yours was double cut not satin). But in any event the grips look the same. Black SS with some greenish threads towards the back. Very subtle as they really just show up in natural light.

Didn't get to use it for the veggies, I promised the Bog Dog first shot and man what a slicer it is. However the AD will get it's turn as it's definately going to be a user and I'm wearing it right now.

The big boys are all getting jealous cause the little guys are getting all the belt time. Oh well. Their turn will come.

Rob,
I’ve reposted the picture, the handles are definitely snakeskin, but you’ve got me wondering about the finish??

It is one of the first of the snakeskin handled AD’s that came out on the old web page a couple of years ago, they were an alternative to the all black.

Someone here will remember the finish, the picture doesn’t show the blade unfortunately.

Yup, same grips (not as worn... yet). Guess it could be a dull black or a very deep brown. The green is down in the valleys, not on the ridges at all. I thought there was another pic of yours that showed the blade. Mine is very smooth/polished, but very definately a matte finish. Like the tac finish on my Uncle Mofo. No mistaking it for the shiny satin finish. No matter though, a great little user of a blade.

Ya'll got me going nuts here.I just traded for one but it will be tomarrow before it gets here.

Rob,
Here’s another picture of it minus the sheath. Apart from some kydex scratches and a few blood stains it’s still in good condition

I grabbed my first AD at blade. Satin finish with green linen micarta. Found a sheath that fit it as well. I carried it the rest of the weekend. I should have gotten one of these a long time ago.

That was the first time I handled one,at Blade Friday.Knew I had to get one but did not have enough cash on me and still have gas money home(damn gas,I live in TN just a couple counties north of the GA line and it cost 55.00 in gas to go and come back).I will learn about buying something at the first table I stop at.
I really wish I picked up a Nuclear ice pick though.

Character marks Ian, character marks. My mistake, yours is most certainly satin. I just hope any bloodstains I get on mine aren't from me! Sharp little bugger.

chances are that this is the exact active duty your refering to :)
if you wash the handles with soap and warm water (+rag), it removes the oil thats built up and lets the colors go through.

the regular active duty has the normal green linen micarta, the variant seemed to have grey-blue linen micarta....

Well, since you folks are talking AD's, I'll ask something that I've been thinking of since seeing the new Swamp Rat folder: Doesn't the choil on the AD get in the way on so short a blade? I had a Benchmade 970S with a relatively deep choil and it bugged the hell out of me whenever I tried to cut cloth, rope, etc.

thats one of the main reasons i went for a longer blade (SHBA) :(

not only did i want more slice room, but the choil did get in the way constantly, especialy with plastic bags and cloth. the recurved variant helped a lot with that, since the revurve made it so you could tear through something without it slipping down the blade past the tip, or into the choil.

and let me tell you this - do not try to use the choil as a finger rest. it does not work.
