Ebay Item #250101500023 is 705UH with clip blade and pair of scissors. Currently on Aussie Ebay @ US $143.11 =Au$175.01.If that isnt bad enough it has scale pin crack as well. 705 UH "The Chairman" with scissors you ask?? And you thought the UH 705 had one large clip blade and one pen nail file and you're right!
The 707UH "Gambler" had one clip blade and one pair of scissors. The Tang stamp stamp on Ebay item definately has 705UH clearly.
Error knife or final days "throw together" for the auction either way its worth squat with the scale pin crack in my opinion.
I have Aussie Ebayers email me now for information because so many are being foisted with mis- descriptions and disguised Chinese crapp on Aussie Ebay and paying through the nose for their lack of accurate knowledge. The then highest bidder at US$140 emailed me for my opinion. He is relieved he has been overtaken and he is current highest bidder @ US $140 odd on a LB5 Special Edition without box sheath or bling. It does have scratched nickel silver bolsters according to the photo, same seller.
Question: What would you say if you are asked by email while auction is running and what is your opinion of worth of the Great Con headed UH705 above?
Would you tell people you simply dont know, dont reply or give honest opinions when asked?. These are people who have invariably bought genuine Schrade or other knives from me in the past. Hoo Roo

I would have to reply with what I know to be true. The knife is a hodge podge of parts, the master blade stamp not matching the pattern (scissor). It could be an end of days knife, or a reject (because of the crack and wrong blading).

When the employees were laid off without notice at the end of July 2004, a few were kept on through the auction (October 2004) with instructions to turn parts into finished knives, boosting the number of finished knives in-house. "If it fits, assemble it" was the general idea. This resulted in all sorts of odd knives and mismatched blading.

Also, a large quantity of parts were left over and sold at the auction. These parts continue to be assembled by...? Value today? That is up to an individual buyer of such knives. Neither fish nor fowl, it isn't a correct 705UH or 707UH. What do we call a child without legitimate parentage?

I don't think anyone is going to ask my opinion, at least not at this stage in my knowledge. But if I ever do gain the knowledge, I would tell it like it is, no holds barred. As a new collector, I would appreciate someone with your knowledge to guide me. You saved this guy some big bucks, Good for you.

Same seller had another knife I had never seen:

250101173053

An 886UH, which appeared to be a one pinned 885UH. Similar in appearance as an 898UH. SCC+ instead of Schrade+ and only one center pin instead of three pins.

Never seen it before. Have seen the 898UH about once a month or so, but never a definite explanation of the stamp.

Why not help the poor bloke selling it,he claims to be a novice and asks for any help if known.Maybe it is easier for you know it alls to talk about him behind his back and make fun of him..Enjoy your day looking for more to joke and talk about behind their backs...

Someone who's been selling knives for a year with over 500 feedbacks doesn't sound like a novice to me. Besides, it seems like only the first poster was actually raking him over the coals. C'mon wadie, your first post since August of last year and you use it to defend a fellow Aussie? Or are you one and the same?

Just telling it as I see it..How long have you been involved with Schrade.??Just because he sells several hundred 34OT,8OT,108OT and 12OT does not take away the novice aspect of the deal.Tries to get hold of what he thinks is a step up in the market to spread the charm of the Schrade in Australia and gets nodded by the "pro's."..Real nice and fair.
As for mr Larry getting emails from people, that is crap as I know he actually emails bidders and already gives them his opinion.I know as I have had emails from him warning me and he did not know...All the best chaps...Bye for now

OIC now. You joined the site last year, and have been reading and using the info we posted without contributing anything. Until now. Your first post (and second) are used to bash a posting (contributing) member.

I know for a fact that what he said is true. He has forwarded quite a few questions to me and others when he wasn't sure of the answer.

Would I be wrong in guessing you are from "Gosford-Wyong, NSW, Australia" and are kayakertk1 with over half a thousand sales on aBay? I might be since you had access to our resources here for quite some time and the seller obviously did no research here or in any good reference book on the item he was selling. Did you help the seller? Are you the bloke who I.D.'d this knife to him?

Welcome to the forum. We look forward to your future positive contributions mate.
Michael

EDIT: I now see that kayakertk1 is no longer a registered user on aBay. What a coincidink!

I am not him,but I do know through an email to regular buyers that he has due to a young family and a father who has just had a heart attack given up the hours he spends on the computer...He has sent a number of photos for me to peruse,as he has for a few other people to see if we would like some of his things..
A real question now..He sent a photo of an LB8 blade in a body with timber handles as in an LB7.Is it worth anything and does it bare saving. In mint by the photo..Do not know how to post one on here or would. Also wants to get rid of 1990 great outdoors mint series in timber display box.Should I buy them off him and how much are they worth.
PS...He leaves Australians about 30 schrade knives to choose from each week, all repeats each week.Us blokes with properties who bought great work knives will now struggle over here.

Wouldn't be the first time, but I think I've missed the point of this topic.

The auction seller has an unusual Uncle Henry knife with a mis-matched blade. It could have been an end-of-days knife, but factory "oops" knives have been a long-standing tradition at Schrade and the knife could very well be from the 1980s as the seller guesses.

... either way its worth squat with the scale pin crack in my opinion.
I would have thought that myself. But did you see the broken and used 2OT sell for over $100 recently?

Sure, IMO that oddball UH knife sold for far more than it's worth. But how is that the seller's fault?

So perhaps Larry could re-state exactly what his 'beef' is with the seller?

Unfortunate circumstances Wadie, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with your initial post.

LB7 or LB8 - Great knives. New and in a box $60.00 to $75.00 US.

1990 Great Outdoors Series - Depends on the selling price he sets. Sets, in my opinion do not bring as much per knife as selling them separate. Probably why you see occasional empty timber (we call them wooden up north) boxes for sale. Worth is a subjective term, depends on your photography and listing skills, and how bad more than one person is willing to pay for a knife.

Bear in mind you Aussies are Schrade deprived and would pay much more than we do in the US.

I can actually see both sides of the discussion here. I do sell a few knives in Australia. 8OT, 34OT, and some of the Camillus Stockman. In fact I have this one that you all make me wonder about.

Yes, I have handled a lot of Schrades, Case, and even a good number of Camillus knives. But, I can in no way say that I am expert enough to say if this is a put together piece. I do know it came from a distributor that had it in stock for some time before Camillus shut down. So, I am guessing that this is the real deal.

Wadie, if you are looking for Schrade, or Camillus feel free to contact me. I do get some new knives but, being mostly a avid collector, most knives I get are used.

Actually I have found that a lot of folks, Aussies, and American's both, like the older ones with some of that tarnish patina. They just look like Grand Pa carried it.

I have done just enough with pocket knives to know that I can miss a lot very easy. I too have jumped to a conclusion about someone elses intent based on what I thought was pretty obvious and ended up finding out I was dead wrong.

I still go by a lot of the old knife collectors sayings. Like "Know your dealer". "Only deal with folks who will refund the purchase price if you are not happy.". For me it all comes down to the Golden Rule. Treat others like you want to be treated. As I mentioned just a bit ago I have failed at that goal too by erring in my judgements. So, sometimes a bit of humble pie and a heart felt apoligy are involved too.

I like knives but the very biggest reason I get so caught up with it is because I have never met such a large percentage of honest folks in any area I have had experience in. Well yeah, I did work in a prison for 32 years and that may have jaded my view a bit but I really am impressed that I can deal with so many people and by and large they are good, decent, honest men and women. Maybe working so long with convicted criminals makes me enjoy honest folks more than most but all the same I have a whole lot of great dealings to talk about over the last 5 years with knife collectors than I ever had buying cars, houses, or other areas.

The other problem I have is I tend to ramble on way to much.

Best Wishes to all.
Ed

What do you wonder about? Is it something about that Camillus stockman in the picture, or did I miss something?

I did not miss one important point, and agree with your post. A dishonest knife salesman on Ebay, ouch, talk about news that spreads fast! Worse than serving rotten beef at a restaurant. :barf:

Glad you dropped in.

Ed,
Nice post, welcome to the forum! I don't think I'd worry about that Camillus. I think the situation there was different. When Schrade was sold, the entire inventory of knives was auctioned off, so the more they could put together at the last minute, the more they could make at auction. Not to mention all the parts that were sold that could be cobbled post auction.

Eric

Thanks for the reply Ed..I do not get on here very often and so miss a lot of anything that may go on..I have never had to many bad dealings with any Knife sellers to note, even though I have not been involved much over there..
All up you all sound like a good bunch.Only heard of this on the grapevine and never really had much to say that would interest anybody.May drop in a little more often if I can get inside and find some time...
