I had an "original" Tanto Umnumzaan a while back but sold it on after just a few weeks. As soon as I sold it I realised I actually quite liked the knife. :foot: I kicked my shoes around for a year or so but never managed to get a hold of one. Then the new and revised Umnumzaan was put out so that made getting one of the knives I actually wanted rather more difficult. :(

Fast forward to last night and the knife gods must have been looking my way. A good friend of mine it turnes out had 3 mint, new in box knives from 2009 that he had been keeping for a rainy day, and yesterday it was raining ! :D:thumbup:

You are very lucky!!!! I've been looking for a umnumzaan tanto for 3 months now... Congrats!

Mine is also an '09 tanto. What is different about these from newer ones? My birthcard is marked "limited edition"...

There is no serial number or logo on the knife. Should there be something on the box or card?

I really cannot trace back the origin of the knife- but for our 10th anniversary in 2009, we had 10 only made with our 10 year logo and each was numbered- these were marked limited edition on the birthday card.

Perhaps the cards got mixed up.

If your first name is Matthew then you were not in the group of 10 who got these 10 limited numbered ones.

Take care, Neil

Neil - I think that I remember you having a "Dynamic Tip" tanto Umnumzaan that was labeled Limited Edition, didn't you?

Yes, you are 100% correct- I got thrown off as the one posted buy the OP looks like the standard one.

So, all should be clear now.

Thanks for your brain which is clearly operating better than mine today!

You know the old joke- the doctor told me to take B12 vitamins for my memory but I keep forgetting to take them. (In my case to buy them).

Regards, Neil

I was mistaken - the birthdate is 3/30/2010 There is no sticker or logo, but the birthcard does say Limited Edition.
What is "Dynamic Tip"?

The "dynamic tip" knives have a bigger bevel on the tip, a deeper ground, sharper edge if you will. They look pretty good too.:thumbup:

Have a look a Niel's site and you will be able to see pics of both blades......

Also, the difference between the earlier knives and the newer ones are the lock bar cut out, the detent set up and of course the IM engraving. Those things are all on the newer knives but lacking on the earlier pieces.

Haze, isn't this like the 15th Umnumzaan you've owned?:D

It must be about that....:o

How's it going guys ??

I love the um umnumzaan as well. I had all 3 until recently. I have my original of course, the regular tanto, and had the Wilson combat original version as well. My original is still my baby and I am quite fond of the tango umnumzaan as well. As for the WC version, the lockbar cut out did not stand out for me or the detent for that matter and I like the Idaho made stamping. I could just not warm up to the grooves in the slabs as they always seemed to dig into my fingers when holding it. I loved the look of it, but could just imagine using it heavily.

You you stated the new ones have the lockbar cutout, detent, and Idaho made engraving .... ? If so, I will have to pick a other up. Please tell me it doesn't have the cheesy Hinderer lockbar stabilizer ??

Excuse my ignorance as I have not been on daily and hourly like I used to be..... Lol. No matter what other knives I try, I ALWAYS come back to CRK.

The Hinderer style LBS is very new and has not, as far as I have seen, made it onto the regular CRK Umnumzaans yet. The new issue Star-Tac Umnumzaans do have it though.

I have to say I am not totally against the idea but IMO it needs to be far better executed for it to be tolerable.

I agree as well with the lockbar. The pics I have seen of it, were not good. If it had something to make it look better, I would be all for it. Make it like Striders and have maybe CRK stamped into it. Something to make it look better overall.

Indeed, I think something even as simple as placing it under the start of the clip would make a world of difference. It would also be an idea to perhaps put the "Idaho Made" engraving on it too. Even better, a hidden LBS would be more in line with what, at least I, think CRK is about. That being clean unclutered design, few but good materials and exellent execution of said design and wise use of chosen materials. :)

I would like to have seen it placed here on the knife, if it needs to on the out side at all. It's at the fatter part of the lock bar and the eye is less easily drawn to it by blending it with the other lines of the knife and having it more centered.

That said we have only seen the Star-Tac knives with it so far, there may or may not have been changes made already.......
