Finally stripped my 16!

First I etched.....

Then I stripped.....

Then I was done......in the downtime, I also dyed my sheath green!

wow, that etch is dark! how long did you leave it in? I like.
 
I heated the vinegar up in the microwave for about a minute or so and then left the knife in for about 2 minutes. Didn't take very long at all.
 
Nice job. How long did ya leave the etchant on ?

I think I ended up doing three 1 hour coats on each side. I couldn't find the right allen wrench to take the blades off and didn't want to immerse the handles althought I'm not sure if it would have hurt them or not. I think it ended up being a 10 hour process between etching and stripping.

I've never tried cider vinegar for a patina before, wonder if that's how you got it so dark? the white vinegar I used last time seemed to take forever to work.
 
Fun stuff.....I finally tried a strip and patina......I like it and am gonna take it for a spin this week at Brother Fisk's pig hunting camp.......I do hope to really give a naked 16 a real workout......

oh and thanks for the tip lowery on putting the vinegar in the microwave it speeds things up much nicer.
