Finally Stripped my BK9

I had some free time saturday afternoon and needed a project, so I stripped the 9.

I used paint stripper and the typical stripping process.

After stripping, I used steel wool but no sanding.

I then coated the blade with a thin layer of ketchup for 30 minutes. This left an even, fairly light patina. I then cleaned off the blade with alcohol, and brushed on some mustard to make the pattern. I let the mustard set for 30ish minutes, and cleaned again. I then applied a very thin, even coat of mustard to darken everything. This set for about 15 minutes.

Here are the results. This is my best patina yet.

I love that look. Looks like you got a winner on your hands there. Sweet lookin' knife, personalized, and badass to the bone workhorse. Very nice indeed.

That looks flippin' sweet brother. Really nice job.

Thanks, everyone, for the compliments. Now I'm going to have to recreate this patina on all my future Beckers.

Nice, very nice.

How long do you think the patina will stay on it?

I imagine it might wear off fairly quickly during hard use.

Great job! I love the '9. It's really become my favorite knife period. Nothin' beats a '9 with that look.

It is showing a little wear at the very edge, but I'll need to use it more to thoroughly test its durability,

Ok, i'm considering to do the same thing. But I'm a little worried that the patina might wear off and the blade become rusty. Since the knife is in my survivalpack it might be more clever to keep te coating on it.

The patina may wear off a bit with use, but can be re-patina'd easily. I've changed patinas on my 14 several times.

The coating will wear with use as well.

Rust is easy to prevent by keeping the blade dry and occasionally oiling.

There has been some discussion here recently about rust, and the conclusion was that concerns over rusting were mostly overrated.

So, I'd say if you want the patina look, go for it.

That looks great I like the patina. Did you use any specific brand of paint stripper? I am going to strip my BK2 and am tryign to decide what to use.
