Well, unfortunately no great pics to share... Its was a very strange trip. We were completely surrounded by wildfires, so the smoke was just horrific, and after 3 days of hiking, it was the first time I've ever noticed a big difference in my ability to breath.
We actually thought about breaking camp and getting out of the area, but we were seeing a lot of animals, and I never claimed to be very sharp lol...
It was kinda cool though, because we had fire retardant planes and helicopters flying over our camp for 4 days, going to a big fire about 30 miles north of us.
Saturday and Sunday nights we had big thunder storms, with high winds, lightning, and rain. On the plus side, we saw some very nice bucks. I chased after 4 of them for almost 2 days. All 4 appeared to be 30 inch plus bucks. My 14 year old son Travis, almost got his first shot at a deer Saturday. We got on to a nice forked horn buck, that was about 20 yeards away. Unfortunately, he took just a little to long to get the shot off, but it was still cool to watch him.
We did locate a couple Elk, but they are still really scattered. It was the first time I've had a chance to get away from everything in a long time, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Now I'm waiting for Sept 10th. I have the 10th - 18th off, and will be going back up and starting over. By then, the Elk should have started rutting.
Now for the depressing part, tomorrow its back to reality and work
