Finally! The woods folder I've been waiting for...

For some time I've been stalking various websites and the Exchange area of several outdoor skills/knife related sites hoping for a siting of this elusive knife. The knife manufacturer's production and stocking schedule means that many of these knife are hard to come by in the configuration I want and after one 'almost' with a Canadian knife seller I finally stumbled on what I hoped (and now believe is) and excellent all around, tough folding knife for everyday tasks and wood/bushcraft tasks: the Emerson full-size A-100, satin finished, plain edge.

I'm only attaching one quick cell phone picture for reference, but the size, shape, ergonomics and blade geometry should make this knife useful in a variety of settings and tasks. It is a 2010 model and the liner lock-up is super strong, no blade movement at all, and razor sharp.

I'd love to hear any praise, concerns, or general thoughts about the A-100 as a bushcrafting/woods bumming folding knife.

Looks good. IIRC there's a strong following for those as bushcraft/edc blades around these parts. If I were getting a folder for edc, I'd strongly take a look at one. I say good score.

Most interesting Emerson I have seen in five years. Looks really great as a matter of fact.

Looks like it's broken in the middle.... ;)

I just bought my first Emerson, a Commander. I was very unimpressed with the fit, finish and lock-up. I will say it came extremely sharp; I think it was sharper out of the box than any knife I've ever purchased.

I looked at the A100 but figured if I was buying an Emerson, it had to have the Wave!

Stay sharp,

Cool! Been eyeballing that model for a long time.
Question for you, for left handed opening theres no scalloping of the handle for access to the disc opener, so how difficult is it to open left handed? Can it be opened left handed?
I'm ambidextrous but mostly carry lefty. I've almost bought this model a few times but this unanswered question has kept me from pulling the trigger.
:)

I've had the pleasure of owning one for almost a year, a great woods knife. It is my edc also. She's made fuzz sticks, whittled spears and recently a twitch up snare. I highly recommend this one. Some emersons have break in periods, be prepared for sticky locks

I had an Emerson Raven that I was particularly fond of years ago and yours sort of reminds me of it. IIRC, it was durable as hell and never gave me any issues.

Man, that's a beauty and very tempting Joe!

I really like Emerson knives and EDC one. For outdoors, my two top choices are the A100 and the CQC-10. The CQC-10 has a great spear-pointed blade and with the "wave" feature, it'll deploy from the pocket very quickly.

The A100 is really a solid, svelte design. If the off-set, chisel grind doesn't float your boat, you could easily get it re-profiled; so far, the gind hasn't bothered me.
