So I recently upgraded my phone and decided to go with the Samsung Galaxy s4. After using it a week I'm impressed. I upgraded from an iphone 4. Maybe I like it because my old iPhone was "outdated" but this thing is a beast. I played with the iphone 5s and just couldnt pull the trigger. That screen is too darn small. The s4 screen is gorgeous. And the guts in this thing are fast and smooth. Now trying to decide if I should trade my ipad 2 for a samsung tablet.

Personally, I'd wait on the tablet since you now have the s4. The ipad is a fine tablet for now and it's best to hold out if you can

I'm carrying a Galaxy SIII, and an iPhone 4S.

Galaxy is personal, and the iPhone 4S is employer issued. I prefer the SIII. My wife and daughters all have iPhone 5S, and while it is a great phone, it doesn't compare to the SIII in speed, and function. I will be upgrading to either the S5 when it comes out, or the Note 3.

As far as a tablet goes, I'd wait. I received an iPad 3 for Christmas in 2012, much to my surprise. I was going to purchase the Nexus 10 during the after Christmas sales. After a year with the iPad, I still need to lug my laptop with me more than I like, so I'm probably going to go to a Windows 8 Pro tablet in the very near future. Samsung is also supposedly going to intro a new tablet this spring, and it might be just the ticket for you.

If you're heavily invested (ie: spent a lot on apps/games) in iOS, you might want to stick with the iPad, although the higher cost of iProducts might make it cheaper to go with Samsung or other Android, even if you have to buy everything again. If you go with Samsung, either go with the 2014 Note 10.1 or one of the upcomming TabPRO (10.1" or 8.4""). DO NOT go with any of the current Tabs or the Note 8.0. They're overpriced for what they are and the screen resolutions are very unimpressive. If you like the ~10" size, the Note 10.1 2014 is the best out there. Most people's laptops aren't as powerful. The TabPRO 10.1 isn't quite as fancy (2gb RAM instead of 3GB, and no S-Pen), but should also be significantly cheaper. Rumor is that Google is coming out with a new Nexus 10, but no clues on when that'll be. If you'd like something a bit more portable and easier to handle, the TabPRO 8.4 has all the power and screen resolution of its larger sibling, giving it an industry-high pixels/in^2 ratio. There's also the LG G Pad 8.3, which "only" has a 1080x1920 screen (vs 2560 x 1600 of the Note 2014 and TabPROs) and a slightly less powerful processor, but should be cheaper than what the TabPRO will probably cost, and it's out now so you wouldn't have to wait. The LG also comes in a "Google Play" edition, directly from Google, which comes with stock Android software and none of LG's extra stuff (basically, it's a Nexus), which could be good or bad, depending on what you plan to do with it.

The wife and son both have the Galaxy III and really like them. I upgraded about 6 months ago, and got the new Motorola Droid Mini.
I like it. So far it's a great phone. I think the only reason they call it a mini is, because it's not the size of a freakin tablet, like some of the new phones.

Personally I never understood the hype about the IPhones, and they are WAY over priced imo.

Ive recently became eligible for an upgrade I have the S3 and love it I could get an S4 for .1 cent and its so tempting from all the reviews I've read it seems to be awesome. But there's also a rumor of an S5 being released around march...So maybe with the upgrade it will be affordable enough ill pick that one up.

My nephew has it the ipad2 ive played with it a lot and could never get on board as a fan. I think android products have spoiled me!

Unusually when you see a model significantly discounted, it foreshadows the next model. Happens every time

Announcement of the S5 is expected soon (Q1). Current rumor is there will be 2 versions; a standard version with impressive hardware and the typical plastic construction, and a premium version with even more impressive hardware and aluminum construction.

The S4 is not the fastest phone, but it's still "fast enough" for anything you'd want to use it for today. Its processor/GPU is a step down from the current top-of-the-line, and 2 steps down from what we should be seeing very soon. The fastest phones right now are the Nexus 5, the LG G2, Sony Xperia Z1(S), and the Note 3, but they all have one or two drawbacks that prevent them from being considered "perfect". The Nexus 5 and LG G2 don't have expandable memory. The Nexus 5 only works with AT&T and T-Mobile. The Xperia Z1S is only available from T-Mobile, and is a bit large for its screen size, but otherwise is an amazing device. And while the Note 3 is at the top of specs and performance, it's also very expensive (even on upgrade), and is huge size might be too large for many.

The S4, although slightly outdated (and thus, not quite as "future-proof"), still has many benefits over other current flagships. MicroSD expansion for one. Replaceable battery for another. There's lots of accessories for them. and being one of the most popular phones, you're less likely to come across app bugs or incompatibility, and see continued software support from Samsung. Currently, with a new contract or renewal, they can be had for only $50-100. It has a great camera. I definitely prefer the physical "Home" button and capacitive "settings" and "back" button over the on-screen buttons that other phones have (which seem backwards to me).

Of course, phone choice also depends on your service provider.

Planterz, you seem to know quite a bit about the latest tech. This s4 is my second android device. I had a motorola droid before iphone. Im definitly an android fan. I just had to try out apple and see what the hype was about the screen was just too small and ios is too darn restrictive for my taste. I think their phones are pretty, but not for me. Ill keep the ipad for now, but im leaning toward an android tablet in the future
