My first cut was to trim some bubble wrap this morning.

Now, I just cut a peach and an apple.

Why is the first cut always so hard?

be careful with using your knife with food. I do not think the CRK grease is all that sag=fe with that plus the acids from the fruit will destroy the grease and you will have to clean and re-grease often.

bbq is right here, water and citrus acids remove the grease. It is ok to cut it all up but make sure you get a tube of the flourinated grease to reapply after you wash off the knife.

and my first cut was the hardest too, once you get a couple scratches you will appreciate the knife as a tool more.

For me, I immediately had to reprofile the edge to my desired angle(s), and that act alone made it so I'm not worried about using my knife. I still do not abuse it, but the idea of somewhat hard cutting with it is not so scary anymore. But before I started the reprofiling, I was afraid I might screw up the blade. After the first few reprofiling strokes, I thought, "Well, I've already started anyway, let's do this."

Plus, as mentioned, after the first few scratches, the knife will feel like a tool, and it will really feel like your own. For lube, I've personally never used the fluorinated grease; I have some Militec-1 that I occasionally put in the pivot area (a tiny bit). When cutting foods, etc., I do my best not to get juices, etc., into the pivot.

You'll probably be so much happier once you've thrashed it a few times, dinged up the handle a bit and realized that it's still a very capable tool after all that. Don't take my word for it though....

I haven't used flourinated grease on it either; just whatever's at hand when taking it apart for cleaning, usually about once a month. 3 in 1 oil, lithium grease or even olive oil (still a great lube and it's food safe too).

No harm on easing in gently with bubble wrap and peaches tho'. :D

Haha definately no permanent damage. They are just saying that the acids will eat away at your lubrication and will, in effect, make it not open and close as smoothly. Nothing more.

I've been using Breakfree CLP in my pivot for the last month or so and it seems to be working very well. I put just a couple small drops on each contacting surface when assembling the knife so it doesn't leak out and get all over the blade and everything. It seems to last about 3-4 times of rinsing it with hot water (the whole knife, not just the blade) and then I pull out the blade and reapply. I don't use my sebenza for much food prep though so I don't have to rinse it too often.

Bought my first CRK [small seb 21 plain Ti] and used it right out of the box to diminish any instantaneous emotional connection. lol

Bought my 2nd CRK Large Seb 21 Plain used so that was no issue.

3rd CRK Mnandi snakewood and have only cut some plastic wrap enclosing crackers.

Use em and keep em clean X]
