I was able to fill my gas tank & hit the hills thanks to getting my tax refund!!!!!!
It was a dreary day with light rain falling, but I had to get out even if it meant out in the rain and snow...at least I was OUT!
I set out for a reservoir my brother & I had been to years ago.
First stop up was this pretty little pond accessible from the road side.
After checking out the pond I went back down the road a bit to hike an old road I noticed on the way up that was gated to keep motorized vehicles out.
I hiked back in a ways until I hit a side track that I hoped would take me to the back side of the pond.
It sure was pretty back there, with everything covered in moss, but I couldn't get close to the pond for more pics because the vegetation was so thick along the edge & I didn't feel like busting brush & getting whetter than I was just to see the pond I already had pics of.
Anyways,I didn't get a lot of pics back there because I was more interested to see where the track went, but I did take a few...
See the white tree there in the middle?, was one of a few out there that the snow had stuck to for some reason.
It really stood out & seemed to be begging for it's pic to be taken so I obliged it.
And this no doubt is part of the reason why the road was closed to vehicles.
I saw the handle sticking up above the brush & had to go see what the heck it was.
I doubt it was left there by a trail maintenance crew.
Soooo..I followed the track to the end,(very uneventful)then hoofed it back to the truck for the drive up to the lake.
And the knife I had in my coat pocket.(no pack this hike)
For some reason the higher I went, the more snow there was coming down.
The road up...good thing it was plowed previously.
Just before getting to the lake proper the first thing I saw was a sign saying all vehicles MUST register here before continuing on.
I said the hell with that & headed back down.Besides,I've seen it before.(and didn't have to register)
I like to enjoy the outdoors unencumbered by government intrusion & registering my vehicle is to me an intrusion so back down I went.
And no pics of the lake for you..NEXT!
On the way back down....
There is a stretch where the road is very steep & twisty for a mile or so.(made for some interesting driving especially on the way down....I did a bit of sliding.
)
Wew,back on bare pavement & I stopped for pics.
It sure was beautiful with the snow falling.
Primeval looking eh?
And the hat for the outing(in the mirror)..my favorite for woods wandering, luckily I had the hood attached to my coat & it fit over the JK hat just fine.
It was wet & chilly, but it sure was great to get out.
Thanks for lookin'.
