Find me an edc fixed blade!

I'm looking for something in size between the ESEE izula 2 and the ESEE 3. Blade length between 3 and 3.5 inches and overall length under 7.5 inches. I have an izula 2 and a spyderco street beat on the way, just looking for options. I have medium size hands. Help!

Hi chrisk91. How did you make out with this? I have a Spyderco Street Beat, and various options from TOPS and Bark River coming for fixed blade EDC applications as well. I would like to hear your thoughts.

For me, an edc fixed blade means something that I can carry in my pocket. I just got an Boker/Tom Krein pocket bowie in my hands and I like it very much. The ergonomics of the handle are very good, considering this is a three finger knife. I can just get some support for my fourth finger. The finish is flawless. The knife cost me, postage and all, 51 euros. Very sharp out of box, the steel is 440C.

The sheath looks a bit different from those I have seen before in pictures of this knife. Some sheaths have been too tight, this kydex sheath is just right. It retains the knife well but the knife is still easy to get out. I can use my thumb to push the sheath and get the knife out this way.

Most likely I will carry this in my pocket so this screams for a proper pocket sheath. I thought I could use the original kydex sheath as a liner for safety and just cover it with leather for comfort and looks. I could add a small knob to the sheath for my thumb to push against when drawing the blade.

Got the street beat! Perfect for edc, can pocket or belt carry easily. The kydex sheath is top notch! Looking to see if I can maybe get away with pocket carrying a bark river gunny or Esee 3... Haha the search never stops!

I'm not in love with the blade shape of the bk14...believe me, I looked at that knife way before the others based on its value. I like my knives... Shankier. Lol.

I agree with the BK14/BK24 suggestion for a "try-out". It's not too expensive, it's in your size range, there are custom handles available for it, and you'll have a lot of options with the factory sheath. I know some folks hate the sheaths, but both of mine work great for the carry methods I use. I carry mine horizontal at about 10:00. I used a bicycle inner tube to make a tight-fitting sleeve that holds the sheath very securely. And if I want to switch sides, all I have to do is move the sheath to the other side.

If you discover that you like carrying a small FB for EDC several companies and a lot of makers on BF can fix you up with a bit pricier knife/sheath that might be more suitable to your own tastes. Personally, I like BRKT for everday FB carres. I have two Essentials and a Northstar EDC that are all 4 finger handles in a smaller package than the Becker. And you get them in either CPM M4 or CPM 3V, both favorite steels of mine. Alan Davis has also made me some very nice small FBs. He's on BF and does very reasonably priced work from his specs or yours. I've also had knives from Chase Axinn (don't know if Chax Knives is still in business or not) and Keith Murr.

It'll cost you... but look at the BRKT Northstar EDC. It's everything you listed in your OP, at 3X the cost of the Becker.

LOL, I have a BRK Gunny Hunter in my hip pocket in a pocket sheath and a BRK Northstar EDC in my front pocket, also in a pocket sheath, both in 3V. I just got these in from KSF yesterday, and I love them. They are so much more capable than even the most expensive folders with regard to strength and what you can do with them.

I cannot argue with the cost factor one bit. I do not own a Becker knife, so I am going to take you at your word that these are of the quality in steel and manufacture that many talk about. Like you stated above, the BRK examples that I have, I am completely happy with. The design, the fit and finish and the quality of the steel, when all combined puts a big smile on my face and really satisfies the pride of ownership itch that needs scratching from time to time. My examples may not be the best knives in these categories that money can buy, but I am well please. They will do so much more than a Hinderer XM whatever or a Strider whatever, and they will do so at half or a quarter of the cost. If chrisk91 is being cost conscious with this, then Becker is probably a good suggestion. They just do not do it for me. A custom maker is a great suggestion, but for me, I need to carry various sizes and designs before I feel comfortable going to a maker. I just do not know what I want yet. For a production knife, I am well pleased with these little BRK knives.

I love my BRKTs. That's about all I carry anymore for everyday FB carry. I have some ESEEs that I use for specific tasks, but nothing beats the Barkies for general carry. They've always performed well for me.

McVeyMac... what kind of pocket sheath do you have for your Northstar EDC?

I got a KSF Pocono Leather for it. The handle sticks out of it a bit, but it is working pretty good. I am carrying it in the front pocket.

I was just doing some drawing today to see if I could improve the basic sheath design for this knife (longer). I might be moving into sheath making next for these BRK beauties. Today is the first day I have carried it. but so far so good.

What do you think of this? It has a 3.25" 440C blade. OAL is 7.125". The blade is thin at .085" and has some flex. I had a customer order one and went ahead and made two.

Hi Marty, that is indeed a very good looking knife. Four finger hold, plenty of flat. Nice job.

Can't believe no one has mentioned the Brous Silent Soldier. It is ideal for your needs. You will never even know it's there on you because it is so unobtrusive that you can't even feel it when you sit down.

Thanks, man. I have a Pocono that I carry a City Knife in. I also have an Allegheny and an Adirondack sheath. The length is good but the width of the knife pocket is a little too wide for the narrow Northstar blade. The old Sharpshooter Solo sheath is the best fit I've seen for a pocket sheath, but it's just for a knife... no flashlight pocket.
