Just makes my heart ache Ray... :(

Hey, on a lighter note- what is that giant gear by your welders from/for?

-Nick-

Jeez....is there anything salvagable in that mess? are your hammers useable?

Nick, The big gear I believe is from a combine. I think thats about the only thing the fire didn't hurt. I got it when I got my first post vise. I was planning on having the vise fastend to the gear and then being able to move the vise to where I needed it but changed my mind thinking about the only thing I'd end up doing is triping on it and breaking my neck. You want it?

I most likly will have to heat treat all the hammer heads. Would you believe me if I told you were actually more someplace.

The middle picture has four grinders in it. From left to right: 12 disk sander/grinder, my Hardcore grinder with all the attachments, regular bench grinder, and the pile of crap on the far right is a puddle that used to be my Coot's grinder with the motor. The first picture is my Paragon Heat Treating Oven. I still can't believe it.

Raymond, I am curious about something. Do you know if the plugs in the Acetylene bottle melted or not? If they melted, which they are supposed to do if they reach a certain temp amd when these plugs do melt, they will fuel the fire even more. The O2 bottle is the one that will really make a mess if it explodes from the heat. I saw the after results of one of these exploding due to heat and it can be like a bomb inside of a shop.

Walt, None of the tanks blew up. They just burned. I'm sure thats the reason it got so hot so quick. The Acetylene bottle looked like it swelled up just a bit about 8" or so from the top. The oxy bottle looks to me like you could put a new valve on it and it would be as good as new. What propane I had just burned. I even had a few of the small Coleman size propane bottle and none of them blew up. I was really surprized that there were no explosions other than a few 22 rounds and some shot gun shells.

Ray, I'd find a way to dispose of the bottles, especially the acetylene. Better to replace them than worry about them.
I'm sending you some stuff. I've got an extra 7-drawer Gerstner oak machinist chest. I'll find some tools so it won't be so empty. A digital caliper and a dial indicator, if I can find them in my rats nest.
I think we have an extra set-point controller at work to get your Paragon oven back up. Got to go figure out where it's hiding in the shop.
Maybe I can give the stuff to Nick or Chuck at the BAKCA show, and they can drop it off.
Anything in particular you need in hand tools?
I've lost my share of tools over the years, but not on the scale you have.
Take care.
Howie

Good grief Ray that's horrific. :( At least your ok. Fire is such a devastating thing. We're all with you.
Scott

I look at the pics and feel really bad for you, Ray. At least, you seem to be reacting very well to it, what will eventually lead to a much faster recovery.

I got a little more of the crap out of the way today with a little help from a couple friends. One of the things that was dug up was my Dad's machinest tool box. It was hard seeing it mostly all smashed with just alittle fire damage. I'm sure it happend from the track hoe. The picture shows the next area I need to get to. Thats where the track hoe dumped alot of debre. I'll have to get a rope or chain and see if I can pull that mess apart.

Damn Ray, it looks like you hosted a war... The more I think about it, the more I realize we're probably lucky to still have you around. I can almost see you running around trying to figure out what to haul out of the blaze first. I'm glad you are smart enough to stand back. Wish I was there to help you put things in order. It'll come around man. We're all pulling for you.

Hey I got it that last pic is a truck :D
Kiddin: Man that is a sad site indeed :(

Have two of my blades on the way for auction---maybe help in some small way.
Robert

You guys really have made what has happend not seem so bad. It always seems when something bad has happend its not unusual to have something else come down the road of life. We've know for quite sometime now that my mother in law didn't have much time left. My wife left to go be with her Monday last week. Lucy passed away yesterday morning so I'll be driving down to San Diego on Wednesday so I can make it to the service on Friday. As far as mother in laws go she was the best there could be. I know she's going to missed by all her family. I finally got a forge running for alittle while today. When I came in a good friend of ours had left a message saying she had her baby yesterday. One life ends as one life begins. I guess thats the way its supposed to be.

You're in my prayers Ray. I'm so sorry for your loss (losses). I guess the best I can say is try and concentrate on the positive things where ever you can find them. Sounds like you've allready got that one figured out. Just know that there are a whole lot of people here who care about you and want to help.
