Finding a freight carrier

Okay, I know this is sort of off key, but I am hoping maybe some of you have run into the same problem and can help me out.

I am still "shopping" for a surface grinder, and found a really nice Harig Super 612 in New York.

I am having pretty much no luck trying to find a carrier that will carry an 850 lb. machine so far, to my little town. I'd be willing to pick a machine up at a terminal, but maybe I just don't know where to look.

Plus, it seems like shipping will parallel the cost of the machine to begin with.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

I typed freight in the search bar and got several web sites. I think most any freight line company will deliver it to you, but like you said, it's gonna be big bucks. Thats one reason the harbor freight surface grinders look good, free shipping. You still have to get it off the truck tho.

Take care!! Michael

There are a million trucking companies that would love to take your money.....but be careful.....If I were you I would go to someone I know who has a business and has containers delivered on a regular basis and ask them who they use and then ask them if they will call and have the thing delivered by their forwarder to their warehouse... It could save you as much as 75%....check it out.

I just got a gun safe from Grizzly Industries, but for some reason their (Grizzly's) shipping costs are only $42.00 anywhere in the lower 48 states, but then Grizz may have a deal with Consolidated Freightways that they use for shipping.
My b-i-l picked the safe up at Consolidated's terminal here in Tulsa.
Usually they will load it on a pickup truck at their terminal, but if an item is shipped to your house or shop you're responsible for unloading it.
Fortunately for me when I had my Grizz grinder delivered to my house the CF driver was good enough to unload it and bring it in the house for me. It may have been that he knew my brother that once worked for CF.

YMMV.

I have had stuff shipped to me from Harbor Freight and AIM using Old Dominion Freight Lines. Both experiences were excellent.

Nick, the guys are right. Shipping will likely not make this a great experience. Some of the long haul firms (Oak Harbor Frieght) might be worth a call. Good luck. T
