Finding bio's on custom knife makers?

I'm new to this particular forum. I don't characterize myself as a custom knife guy, but HEY! It's about time that I learned!

Is there a database of biographies and histories of custom knife makers available on the internet? And how about a list of current values of knives made by custom knife makers? I remember years ago A.G. Russel mailed out a list of prices on collectables. Is this resource still published?

Thanks for any contributions!

Hi Barry, some of the custom knife sellers do custom maker bio's on their sites. The AG Russell publication is called the Cutting Edge. You can link to the online version of that from www.agrussell.com

The big five custom internet knife dealers are:

www.knifeart.com (bio's here)
www.robertsoncustomcutlery.com
www.bladegallery.com (more bio's)
www.arizonacustomknives.com
www.nordicknives.com

All of these sites are a great resource even if you just want to learn more about custom knifemakers, their styles, and values.

The web site of the art knife collectors association is fantastic and as some good biographical info, www.artknife.com

Try the Links listed on the first page of this site to find some individual makers web sites. Also get a subscription to Knife World (free from their website for three months www.knifeworld.com

The Knifemakers Guild site is www.kmg.org

The American Bladesmith Society (forged blades) web page is www.americanbladesmith.com

Have fun!

Thanks!

The Bay Area Knife Collectors Association has one of the most complete data bases I have seen out there with a flexable search.
