Well today is the birthday of not just one of my dogs but both of them, by some weird twist of fate they both share the same birthdate ! Maisy turned 11 today and Snicker turned 4, I'd hoped it would be another nice sunny day to take them out but the weather is back to form for this time of the year.....rain, rain and more rain !

At least they were dressed for it !

Anyway as we hiked today I came across a very cool looking fungi, this is the first Bear's Head Tooth Mushroom I've ever found.
Apparently it has a has a nutty taste, mild odor and you should cook before eating. I was quite happy taking some pics and leaving it for someone else to see.

Would have made a decent sized meal though !

After the hike we headed to a little nearby town to grab a coffee and stop by the pet store to grab some treats !

I think this old couple must feed the gulls regularly because they were swarmed by them even before they had pulled the bag of food out !

Anyway my birthday girls are now taking a nap before I fry up their beef heart and liver for the dinner tonight !

Wow - that's very cool. I used to live in coast Wa, and spent a fair bit of time throughout the Northwest, and I don't recall ever seeing a fungi quite like that one.

That fungus is impressive....but I can't help thinking it would be more at home in Jim Henson's workshop!

Cool fungi pit. Recently found something similar, but much smaller and with some tan in it at an area where I like to hike. I have been observing it seeing how it changes, but have no idea what it is. Aren't most edible mushrooms described as having a nutty flavor? That used to confuse me when I was younger...lol, I wondered if it meant it tasted like some sort of tree nut or if it had a crazy flavor...seems like I've run across both :)
