I'm most likely going to purchase a sebenza in the near future. I like the design of the regular over the classic, however I see that only the classics are offered with inlay options. I also would like the blade to be something a little better than s30v. I have quite a few knives with s30v blades and although I love the steel, I would like something a little easier to sharpen. I heard a few sprint runs with BG-42 have been done and I was wondering if they were offered on the regular or classic and where I could find them.

They made them with bg42 for a few years before s30v popped into the knife world, not really a sprint run. I would start looking for an older one. The bg sebs are my favorite version. I have been looking for one NIB, but they are hard to find. It's been a few years since they were made. Happy hunting.

I have a regular large Sebenza with a birthdate of 24 September 1998. It has a BG42 blade. I used this knife very hard (well, I haven't cut carpet with it) during my last two years before I retired from the Army. I lived in the Boise area then, so I took it back once to have it cleaned – now it looks brand new. I wouldn't trade it for any other Sebenza with any other steel made!

My son is in college and military science and should receive his commission in 2009. He wants to branch Infantry and attend the Airborne and Ranger schools and possible move into Special Forces. When he gets commissioned, I'm going to give him my Sebenza. I can't think of a better commissioning present than that. If he makes it to Special Forces, he'll get his own Yarborough upon graduation anyway.

If you find a BG42 bladed Sebenza, buy and hang on to it! It's arguably the best functional Sebenza made.

Thanks guys, any ideas why Chris switched to s30v over bg-42? I own both kinds of steel and I would say bg-42 outperfoms s30v for every type of cutting I do.

Fooj, how far away do you live from the Chris Reeve shop? I used to live out by Lake Lowell in Canyon County. Made visits to the shop easy!

By chance, were you in the subdivision that overlooks Lake Lowell -- close to 1 acre lots, 1st houses broke ground in the mid-90s, if my memory serves me correctly. We almost built there. Beautiful place.

I'm about 15 mins. north of the CRK shop.

I own a s30v and a bg42. Honestly I can't tell the differnce. They are soooo close in edge holding and sharpening?

Fooj, no but some of my Church mates lived there. I lived in the older subdivision across (west) of the old Vallivue High School, northwest corner of Karcher Road and South 10th Street. It's about a mile north of the homes you're talking about. Moved to Washington State to a competitor when Simplot went south.

My wife worked at Terry Reiley Health Services in Nampa as a Trauma Theripist (counselor). I helped her install some white boards, cutting the plastic edging, with my Sebenza! Very hard plastic and lots of pressure. Didn't dull the blade at all! I thought if anything, it would roll the edge. That knife just laughed and asked for more.
