So lets say you walk on in to your local Ma&Pa privately run pawn shop, outdoor store, firearm dealer, or other related retailer (who has nearly no internet presence). You ask to see a few Benchmade knives. They show you a few current production models, maybe that one older demo they couldn't sell. But you're on the hunt for the rare, the unusual, and the not so often seen Benchmade models.

Now because you're a decent person, and it's not too busy, they break out the goods. After chatting you're presented with 5-6 long out of production gold class knives, a few fixed blades, and some older liner locks. They're willing to sell!

So do you...
1. Keep it a little secret until you can fund a few knives you want
2. Buy it all and sit on for a few years regardless
3. Drop a few knife names/numbers to BF members for entertainment
4. Relish the experience of holding a few knives many will never get to own, and move on

Also, interested to hear stories of unusual/older BM finds at your local stores!

I bought my first Benchmade last year and a few months later I found a shop that fits your description perfectly. The guy had tons of discontinued, limited edition, prototype, and pre-production knives. I started going in there frequently and picking out the ones I wanted and eventually he cracked open the safe and sold me a few that he had been keeping for himself. I t5hink I ended up buying close to 100 knives from that shop and he still claims to have some more in a back room that's too cluttered to go in. I need to get back in there and dig around some more.

I would go for option #1. In another city and a few years ago there was such a store. Just what Corey describes too. I could go behind the counter and stay all day. It was that bond between a couple of knife nuts; you know it's one of those places when you walk in. For me, the older Benchmades always hold my attention over the new models. There were Crawfords, CQC7, Ares, Rukus, and even a few PCC treasures. The guy closed up and retired...never knew what became of his stock, but feel lucky for what I did buy from him.

My latest finds, 800BK-1001 and a Bradley Alias II. I've been digging through every nook and cranny of this store for close to a year, but somehow overlooked these two. Just found em yesterday underneath some piles of junk.
