Finding word files

I am having hassels finding some minutes that I typed some 2 weeks back in word.

The problem comes from using a word template I got on email and worked using that. Saved it, not over the original template but seperately.

Now I have found that the search function of windows will not sift through your hidden email files( that goes for date, content nux). How do I go about finding something that the search function will not search through?

Any other way to find it?

If you got the template via e-mail but saved it separately, it's not in your e-mail anymore. If you just renamed it, it may be (or was) in your computer's temp folder but more likely in your My Documents (or your set default folder). If you don't remember the name, just search for .doc (.docx?) files less than a month old in your hard drive. You can also search for files containing specific text.

Much appreciated, doing the search now. I set up another file that deliberately got shifted off Word's most recent files and that dissapeared as well. Fun

I'm still using Office '97, so I'm not sure how templates are saved with newer versions. But when I create and save a document as a template, the extension is *.dot, not *.doc.
So if you saved it as a new template and the file extensions used in your version are the same as mine, you might not find it searching for *.doc.

It appears that should someone send you a template, save it immediately under My Documents then work on it. I tried the method of walking the steps but leaving the name on the last 4 save ones in the drop down window. I then opened and hunted for my minutes and for some reason the second file dissapeared from word although it was open in word and buggered off for eternity. I retyped the minutes, and as my wife pointed out in half the time spent searching.

To celebrate finishing I went to buy bread, dog food and Cider. Got to the shops to find I had left my wallet behind and came home with a can of dog food and bread (coins in ashtray). What a waste of a day.
