Here is a special order, no doubt. The only problem I have is I trashed my order file and I don't know who this may belong to. It is not marked but I would bet it was made by Sanu and he did a fine job. 20 inch Chainpuri style blade with standard handle. 7/16 thick and weighs 2 pounds. Unique bolster and very substantial buttcap. Fit excellent. Finish about 99% magic stone mirror. Hardness close to Rc60. Sharpness, will pop a few hairs off my arm. Scabbard is pretty decent, karda and chakma good.

The price for this khukuri is $125 delivered to your door. If nobody claims it by noon Monday it is up for grabs. First come, first served.

Email if you want dibs on this one. It is Uncle Bill recommended.

Kevin, you've got it if it goes unclaimed. This is a hell of a knife and makes it tempting to claim whether you ordered it or not but the HI forumites are above this type of behavior.

Check noon Monday and send your mailing address.

Uncle Bill-

Thank you very much. That is a gorgeous knife. I, of course, did not order it, but I wished I did as soon as I saw it. Have a great day.

Kevin --- I have a 15" AK that Sanu made and I can tell you he did a fine job. I'm no expert it's just my opinion. Looks a lot like a shop 1 but who am I to say.

Jay-

Thanks for your response. I have heard that Sanu does great work. Is Shop 1 the original location where the khukuris were made before BirGhorka opened? How are they different form the current production?

I don't know if shop 1 is the original location Kevin, and they are not different really, it's just the feeling I get when I compaired it to one of my favorite AK's from shop 1.

Before BirGorkha was opened we used to buy from individual shops, many of these village aruns, all over Nepal. Shop 1 was down in Dharan and made many of our standard items for several years. Some specialty khukuris were still made by a few of our favorite village kamis. Getting on the net saw our sales grow so rapidly the only real solution was to open our own factory and that's what we did. I think the khukuris made by the men of BirGorkha are the best that have come out of Nepal since the country was opened to outsiders.

Khukuri FAQ

Thanks Uncle Bill. I have been wondering for a while what "Shop 1" actually meant. And thanks Jay for bringing up that topic.

OK.

A dozen years ago we had no product line at all and sold whatever high quality khukuris we could find in the outback of Nepal. It was a real hit and miss proposition and littered with the strangest problems you can imagine.
