Here's a couple axes and a spiked tomahawk I've been working on and off for a few days now. Last year a forged a few that were twice as large as these. These were forged from some 3/8" 1065 stock. The two axes started out being 2" X 1/2 X 3/8, the spiked hawk was a 1/2" longer. I tried one with a smaller piece of stock but it was just to small.

Bet they'd look kind of neat with really dark wood for the handles.

Bill, Now that I have four or five drifts I ground one down for the small axes and hawks. This is something I wasn't sure I could do with 3/8" steel but I finally broke down and tried it and it worked. Forging something this small is a real trip. Bad thing is I have shrink myself down to do it and thats tuff. Talk about letting out gas.

So did you use a little mini hammer to forge them out?

Wulf, These were done with my regular big boy hammers. A mini power hammer would really be the ticket. Just hand held hammers were used.
