Last week, I'd been trying out an unfamiliar sharpening process on my Bilton, but managed to scratch up the flat of the blade a little. It's been easy to get it back to a satin, but I have no buffing compound to finish up. Or so I thought. Cleaning out any gunk left in the feather yeilded a small chunk of compound left over from the original finishing.
Black gold! I let it melt into the tip of my index finger and after a few minutes of vigourous rubbing the mirror finish was back. So, next time you have a small blemish of your khuk while you're far away from proper tools, remember my stroke of luck.
