Finger groove 110: Best 110 for EDC/user?

I don't see alot of finger groove 110s. I've never owned or used one. The FG variant doesn't get much chat, that I've seen, on the forums.

Do the finger grooves make this 110 the best for EDC/user?

I'm speculating that the extra grip from the FGs makes for safer push cuts (fingers are less likely to slide out onto the cutting edge) and better pull cuts (a tighter, more secure, grip is possible).

Speculation aside, and taking into account my history of attempting to learn by doing, I have a standard 110FG on order. Oh boy!

Is there a FG 110 user that takes the cake over the standard?

I have large hands and the FG effectively lessens my grip on the handle because the grooves are cut out of the frame, making the effective width of the frame narrower. This is with my FG knives with flat-sided scales.

However, on my sambar stag FG knife with bulging sides, the FG gives me a very nice grip.

So I guess it depends on the shape of the handle overall and the size of your hands. No one answer to this one, I guess.

OK. So, finger grooves can narrow the gripable circumference of the handle. However, bulging handle material (sambar stag in your specific case) can compensate and render a better grip than non-fg 110's.

A pic of your fg stag 110 would be terrific. Thank you.

The FG's are great if they fit your hand. They don't fit mine so I don't care for them. Really personal taste, I would try to hold one first.

I have thought about having a custom made with fat slabs fit with grooves to my fat hand but never got around to it.

I didn't say it necessarily gives a better grip than the non-FG 110s, but it gives a very nice grip for my hands. I'm sorry I only have a digital cell phone camera at this time (but will be getting a digital camera sometime this summer).

The FG 110 is at the top. That, and the third AG 110 (4th down from top) are among my fattest handled 110's. A fat handled non-FG 110 also gives me a very nice grip.

I imagine it's like buying a pair of gloves or shoes. One size does not fit all. :)

I like the fingergrooves for better grip but I can see not all fingergrooves are created equal. I have big paws as well and can see what wolf is talking about esp on some of the deeper grooves I've seen.

I like my 110's either way. No real preference. I guess I lean towards non-FG just because thats "the classic" 110.

I really like the comfort of finger grooves on a 110 . But I've used both on cutting jobs without any mishap . DM

I like the finger grooves on the 186 and 560 Titanium models and also on the Selector and Bucklite models. They all fit my hand like a glove. If you want to peel an apple, you can put your index finger on top of the blade and put fingers 2, 3, and 4 in grooves 1, 2, and 3. This gives better blade control without sacrificing safety.

Some of the sambar on the BCCI 112's were really fat. The 110's were fat, but not as fat as the 112's

I'd hate to have a thin 560 without FG, I dont think it would fit well at all regardless of hand size. Probably why BUck dont give that option;)

Those were extra fat on purpose werent they PR, or was it artist's choice?

Btw, +1 on the nice stag:thumbup:

These droppie, fg, sambar, ns, s30v, no nail nic, were BCCI collector club 110 and 112's from a few years back. Supposedly never to be reproduced in this configuration.

So yeah...I guess they were fat on purpose. I don't recall all of the conversations about them, but many of them were fatties. Some pretty different/unique from
one side to the other...

Those are very handsome knives Rat . Do you ever just carry one as a dress knife any where ? DM

Wolfdog & Pack Rat: Those are top-drawer dream knives that I've only seen pictures of but never held. Wow! Thank you kindly for showing them to me. Unique and very attractive scale fitment. What artistry and bold choices went into making those stag-rich folders. Eye poppers.
