I saw my wife doing her nails with a 4 way buffing pad the other night and asked to look at it. The pad has 4 grits and is mounted on a foam base, the highest grit is 4000, and is great for polishing a knife edge just like using a strop. I was able to get an edge hair whittling sharp just using the pad on a knife that was fairly sharp to begin with. The buffers are only a couple of dollars and you can get them at a beauty supply store. I looked on line and they make them all the way to 12,000 grit. So anyone who wants a cheap way to buff or strop their edge this is a great little tool, it would also work well for a field sharpener for smaller blades.

I've tried this in the past. It does a great job! My one problem with it is my lady always gets ticked when I do it! :D

Haha this is funny because I have actually started using those to finish my knives after my paper wheels lol. I have one of those 4 ways also that my mom gave me and well it really works well.

Yup, it was a well kept secret for many years among katana users who cut tatami mats at tameshigiri competitions. It would work well to keep the edge sharp and minimize the marring of the polish. Good stuff.
