I decided to go ahead and really clean up the hawk head that I just forged and was having trouble getting out some scratches left from the 36 grit belt. I was sanding the side of the head with perpendicularity
and could not get the scratches in the middle.
I slapped on a leather glove and gently pressed the back of the belt in a sweeping pattern along the surface area towards the middle of the hawk head and it worked like a champ. I know this would yield a less than perfectly flat surface but just for a consistant surface finish before the etch it looks great. Be careful if you choose to do this.
Dont forget that I am the same person that got knocked down by holding a heavy board under my sanders belt for a makeshift platten. I'm much better now that I got of the cheap bourbon.
