alright, so i had a crkt m16 folder and got some rust on it. when i took it to a local knife shop, they said it was because of fingerprints on the blade. i don't have the knife anymore, but i was wondering if i need to worry about fingerprints on knives like the spydie endura4 with an uncoated blade and a BM grip with a coated blade. do i have to wipe off prints at the end of every use? every day? every week? i'd really appreciate the help, it's got me pretty confused.

You shouldnt worry too much, wiping it with a bit of oil once or twice a week will make it fine, or you could get a tuff cloth and just take it out the resealable bag wipe it and reseal it, work wonderful i have one.

As I understand it the water and oils that are finger prints, plus dead skin and dirt, are can be quite corrosive. How much and how quickly they damage a blade will depend on the blade steel, finish, humidity and what is in your finger prints. As for those specific knives I don't know, never owned either of them. At the end of the day I clean any knife that got dirty.

I agree with RevDevil. My first real job was working in a facility that made automobile valves. There was a guy that was hired to final polish the the valve tips. This was an entry level job. His hands sweated so bad that the valves would rust before they dipped then in Oakite, an anti-rust solution.

Some people have extremely caustic sweat and their touch is toxic to carbon steel. Might be the food you eat or just how your body chemistry is. If you are one of these walking "rust bombs", you do need to take extra precautions when handling carbon steel items like knives, firearms and similar expensive items.

Stainless steels or coated blades would be better choices for you, but still be wary about touching the edge on a coated blade.
