finish a bone handle

This is my first attempt at using bone as a handle material usually I work with wood. With wood I can use different stains, varnishes ect. With bone what is a good method to finish the material?

dye it and buff you can get it looking like glass use oil base leather dye microwave it for a few seconds it helps things move along

Thanks for the idea, I am going to give it a try. I have a few scrap pieces to exparement on. Anyone else have any ideas?

I realize that it is probably much too late to make a difference on this particular knife but I have had all of my bone handle material stabilized for the last couple of years with very favorable results. It gives it a whole new look with no need for a finish:

This one was simple cow bone. Something to think about.
