I just got my original Benchmade CQC7 (before Black T was offered)back from them after a cleaning, sharpening & tune up prior to retirement. I only carry Emersons now ;)! My question is, the satin finish on the early Benchmades before Emerson broke away & did a production line, is that considered bead blast? I have both a CN & hard chrome Commander & Mini, and this finish is different from both. This CQC7 was my very first carry knife. That, coupled with the fact that it is an Emerson design, earns it a place of honor with them in my knife case! I'm still regretting not buying a '98 Commander when they first came out.

If I am not mistaken the Benchmade 95X Emersons were Bead blast.. a little tidbit of info.. I went to a local gunshow a few weeks back and found a 99 EMERSON CQC7.. surprisingly it was Bead Blast, not Hard Chrome. My memory must be failing me as I didn't rememeber any of those.

You are correct in that the BM CQC7 was available in a beadblasted finish. Living in Florida, daily carry of the old BMs required constant oxidation removal. To say the least I'm tickled with the EKI HC "Satin" and Black-T options.

John beat me to it. He's right. The first Emerson production CQC-7's I saw did have a bead blast finish like the old Benchmade 970's. Current models have the hard chrome finish which is a definate improvement and looks better, or Black-T.

Yes, my CQC7B has 99 on the blade and it's a very coarse bead blast. However the knife is perfect as far as everything else...I'm curious about Emerson's new "silvery-looking" finish, does it resist rust better than the old bead blast?

The Satin finsh since 1999 has been a Hard Chrome Coating. It's a dull silver in color and is VERY rust resistant. I've carried "Satin" blades for some time and the only oxidation I've seen was once one the bare cutting edge. A few seconds with a Scotchbrite pad and it was back it like brand new.
