Hello,

I have a question and for the record I did try the search function with little result.
I have a MT Socom MA and I am trying to determine what type of finish is on the blade.
It looks alot like a bead blast finish but then again I hear it may be CN. Can anyone clarify that for me please.

At times it looks greyish and then at others it looks almost silverish.
Anyone....?

TIA

Hello Jake.

It is the one I got from you. I was just curious because it looks an awful lot like bead blast and when I was doing some test cutting on some wood, some of the dye "stuck" to the blade. Kind of reminiscent of my old BM975 days.
How can one differentiate between the two?
TIA

I have some bead-blasted MT's from 1997, and the new CN coated blades from 1998 forward. My only desrciption is that the 1997 models look more like a matte finish, possibly grainier, and the CN finish looks and feels 'slipperier.' Rumor has it that the CN finish is more durable than the Black-Ti finishes. For me, both seem to stand up very well, both cosmetically and against corrosion.--OKG

I guess it you took a magnified look at the area where the edge and finish meet you could tell if it was coated or Beadblasted. I'd think the BB finish would have a different feel to it also.

...oh, I forgot. Does your pocket clip have 2 screws or 3 screws? MT started CN finishes about the same time they re-designed the clips!--OKG
