Finish on SEAL 2000

it's a powder coating... some sort of epoxy.

the coating on mine started to crack and peel, but i was offered the option to return it to sog and have them shot peen the blade, or to polish it, but i declined, as i'm in Australia, and our customs are lunatics when it comes to knives.

anyway, i would not hesitate to buy the knife because of this, the customer service i recieved was second to none, and it is otherwise a fantastic knife that i've been using for everything from chopping up meat and vegetables in the kitchen to skinning kangaroos and other field duties.

i would reccomend the knife whole-heartedly.

Hi Clayton,

The finish on the SEAL Knife is a proprietary powder coating. Its purposes are for low reflectivity, corrosion resistance, and aesthetics.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Thanks guys! The coating appears to contain Teflon or moly by the appearance. It is similar to grey Kalguard as well. I just purchased a SEAL 2000 and after cutting around 20 3" branches/saplings, the coating is still in excellent condition, showing almost no wear.

Hi all,

What would be the best route to take if one were to want to remove this finish?

Thanks -Coop

The finish came off my SEAL 2000 after repeated use and much stropping on leather. Now the blade is shiny and razor sharp !!

Cheers,

Carl

A competent knifemaker could buff it off without affecting the crisp grind lines. In essence, he'll do exactly what NPH did, except a whole lot quicker. I'd better mention that doing so will almost certainly void your warranty.
