Hi Y'all,

I don't have any Swamp Rat knives. However since I've got almost every other variety I feel like I should get one

I was looking on their site and to my mind the Howling Rat appears to be about the size that would be useful to me.

What I was wondering is the beige color (desert camo?) appeals more to me but I just see the Howling Rat in black?

From reading apparently there is some delay between when you order one and when it arrives right? So if they are making them up as they go along is it possible to specify you want one in desert camo?

The biege color is tan, those are not avaliable to buy off their site but if you use the Want to buy section here you might be able to pick one up. You can get the black one off the site as of now although they wont be there much longer.

There is a long wait period for them, i ordered one Jan.14th and i still havent received it yet. But as im sure you have heard, its definitely worth the wait.

In the current incarnation, no. No specifying the color other than what is on the order page. The order page, by the way, is not the one with pictures. Click "CLICK HERE TO PLACE ORDER NOW" and you'll see the only three knives available to order: currently the Ratweiler / Howling Rat in black and the Rat Trap folder. There have been many, many variations (I have a green Ratweiler) but those are special offerings at shows or specials releases from the company store: www.ratknives.com

Big changes are on the way, though. The "new line" is around the corner and will be released shortly. We are told some knives will stick around in a slightly different configuration and some will be completely new. Once you start with these Wauseon blades (Swamp Rat & Busse) it does become quite addictive. They are nothing short of amazing!

As everyone has said, right now black is all that it available. One of the ways that Swamp Rat is able to keep costs down is to sell their knives on an "as is" basis -- no special orders. Many of the variations that you see were limited run knives that were sold at shows or special occaisions. They are very sought after. I've been seeking a Tan Howler as well for several months to no avail.

As far as the shipping delay, as soon as Swamp Rat finishes a batch of knives they sell out very quickly. The delay can be anywhere from one week to 4 months depending on the production cycle the knives are in. Based on how long it's been since I've read "got my howler", I'd guess that a batch should finish fairly soon. Of course, that's only a guess.
