I finished this the other day and told B. Bump I'd post it.

The vise is one I made a year or so ago and added on to over time. It has swivel jaws and arms for holding longer objects including a knife fixture just like the ones everyone showed a while back.

The swivel fixture is the same one I showed a week or so back but now with the cinches and a truck bed liner finish.

Inside, it is filled with concrete to the height of the ball.

I flattened the top of the ball with an angle grinder and man....did it stink.

So here it is, ready for use!

Don I'd like to see more of the clamp that holds the ball in place. I like this idea a lot. I've been doing some filework this morning and feeling the effect of all the contortion required to get to it... I'm not as flexible as I once was.

Not much to it Dave. two angle irons bolted on to the sleeve. The sleeve is a piece of the same pipe, slit down th side and slipped over the first pipe.

A piece of 1/2" all thread with the center turned for smooth operation and a tool wheel I had.

Don; I posted at the same time you did. Nice setup, I have a bowling ball out in the backyard so I can do one up. Thanks. :D

"Monster Panavise"! Yeah, that's it! :D I think I can find a cheap bowling ball at a local used sports store, may have to use some of my days off next week to do a little shopping. Thanks Don, this is a great tool. Now I just gotta figure out where I'm going to put mine...

Thats just too cool Don. MAn I bet I could have fun rumaging through your junk heap ;)

Portagee squirrel bowling Don ?
You are close. I have it hanging from a limb and when the Treerats run up my butternut tree I let it go and instant mashed Treerats. I am going to freeze drying them for that OLE REDSKIN TREERAT EATER. :barf: :barf: :D

wow....I want to shake its hand.....seems to have a life of its own.

Neat in an arsty-fartsy way too!

next time use a flycutter to flatten the top and you wont stink your shop up so bad!!! :D

That's a great idea too. I was going to suggest slicing the end off with a horizontal band saw. :p

Hey Don, can we get a pic of the vise with a purty bikini-clad blonde posing with it?

I'd seen an engraving block made of a bowling ball somewhere...
I'm going to mill a slot across one of my old bowling balls and drop a machinist's vise almost flush into the slot, drill a bunch of holes in the top of the jaws for pins/fixtures. I'll make it so it will re-center the work in the slot. A pottery wheel type mount, so I can turn it hands-free, maybe.
I guess I'd better get to making some knives first, huh?

I heard that, Mr. Rascal! Don, that's really cool, and so are your pictures. I have a wood carver pal that has been suggesting I build one of those like yours. He had one in his studio.
