.
My Spyderco Fine Benchstone had a bit of an arch in it going lengthwise, I decided to lap the side that had the ends touching the table first.
Stones Used:
(1) DMT Diasharp Extra Extra Coarse - 120 Micron (Flush often with Simple Green)
(2) DMT Diasharp Extra Coarse - 60 Micron (Flush often with Simple Green)
(3) DMT Diasharp Coarse - 45 Micron (Flush often with Simple Green)
(4) Norton 1000 Grit Waterstone - 14 Micron (Flush often with Water)
Process:
With help from others on this Forum I did not press hard when using the diamond stones, light pressure with a lot of flushing with Simple Green. When I was done with the DMT's I wanted to see what the Norton would do ... would the Spyderco cut the Norton or would the Norton cut the Spyderco. I was surprised to see that the brown Norton waterstone developed a white slurry, to me that that was the white Spyderco being cut. It took just over an hour to finish this project.
Impression:
Touching the lapped side there is a slight difference in feel, however, there is a big difference when sharpening a knife. I'm very pleased with the end result and was happy to "break in" my DMT Diasharp stones, no more straggling high diamonds. I do not know how smooth the lapped side is to a new out-of-the- box Spyderco Ultra Fine Benchstone, but for now, I'm happy with my "double-duty" Spyderco Fine Benchstone.
Thank You to all those who helped me learn how to do this project, all the best.
